Where can I find black dials for SS daytona?

Hi all! I would like to purchase a black dial for my husband's SS Daytona (white dial). Where can I find a black dial? I've heard that Rolex stores/ AD's do not change out the dial for you now. Is this true? If I change the dial, does it negate the 2 year warrantee? Thanks!!

I spoke to an AD manager and he said they can send it off to the Service Centre to get it done. Cost wise will be the cost of the dial and cost of a service.

However he did also say demand for black or white dials go in two year cycles. The demand for black has apparently dropped and white is the one to have now.

An independent certified watchmaker with a Rolex parts account can help you buy the dial and then perform the work - that way you keep the white dial in case he wants to swap back sometime in the future. The warranty should not be voided - but it is ticklish if something went wrong. You'd need to keep all the indie's paperwork to prove that only a Rolex certified watchmaker had opened the watch.

If the RSC does the work, then the white dial is retained by them. But you will still have the full warranty protected.

Thanks for your replies :)

Is this a very common thing to do?? Changing the color of the dial?

Also, is it possible to change the band to a leather strap on the SS Daytona? I googled this but found nothing.

RSC won't change it. You can use an independent guy, but you need to switch it back in order for RSC to service it.

Yes. You can use a leather strap, but you'll need end links.

RSC will change it as long if its the same reference number. So the SS white could be swapped with white. If the watch havent been in service for the last five years they would refuse the swap until you overhaul your watch with RSC. Then you have the next to years to do the swap.
Edit: you cant change it with the dial you have, you would have to buy it through RSC

Interesting. Because I called RSC NYC 4 months ago and they wouldn't swap the white dial of my six-month old 116520 for the black 116520 dial. I guess they changed the rules.

I think RSC in the USA needs some reason on why you are swapping. I think it has something to do with controlling the market. I was talking about the RSC in Indonesia.

Darn Rolex USA!!! Will Indonesia let you swap for any dial, or just SS dials?

Watchmakers can't get dials here...Ask Rikki and he will tell you. You can source dial from overseas AD's but not here in US.

You guys are awesome!! Thanks for the info! I can source a dial in Hong Kong as I'll be going there later this summer.

I know this gets asked a lot but...... is the white dial too girly? I wanted to get my husband the black dial but I couldn't find it anywhere!

Is white too "golfer"? (nothing wrong with that!) Is black younger and more hip?? He's 30.

No white isn't girly it is simple white. Both are nice and to me white more legible. I am sure he would be pleased with either one as a Daytona is a great watch overall.

Just a heads up the Black dial is considered a premium in Asia.
Buying a new Daytona with black dial in Asia costs $1,000 usd more than the white dial Daytona. I say get him the black one easy to match both formal and casual.

Hi,

If you want a 116520 black dial NOS and 100% Rolex, I've got one ;-)

So, you can change when you want...

They'd rather you buy a new Rolex if you want a different dial...

Are you sure you could keep the dial? Some parts (jubilee bracelets for the GMT2, for instance) are by exchange only as far as I know. The Rolex affiliated service center in SF told me they would have to ship my watch to RSC NY where the bracelet would be swapped out and then the watch shipped back.
