Rolex Serial VS. Watch?

Is there a way to trace the actual model assigned to a certain serial number? Will Rolex provide the model ID?

The real question is whether or not the build can be ID's by serial and model#. For example in my case I have an E serial GMTII arriving. It has a Pepsi insert. Is it possible to find out if that was what it originally came with? If not would it be considered a Frankenwatch or would the change from another insert be considered inconsequential?

Inconsequential, as long as it's a real Rolex insert, since the 16710 was offered with it as an option originally. As this is an early model, I would expect the insert to be quite faded, though.

MyF serial Pepsi had the insert color listed somewhere. I think on the paperwork, but it has been a long time since I last looked at it.

I notice on another thread you said you have a 16700 arriving, in which case it is a GMT not a GMTII. Either way, great watch, and the Pepsi would be my choice too.

Yes you're right, I mis-spoke; GMT not GMTII. I'm so use to saying GMTII. Good eye (as usual). Last watch for a while I'm afraid. An that's not all bad.

I'm on the lookout for a nice 16700 myself...with a bit of patina and a nice pepsi insert. I look forward to seeing yours incoming!
