Daytona Owners & Wrist Sizes
Thought I would do a poll of those who own a Daytona and their wrist size. I think this will come in handy for those making a decision to buy one in the future. I think the Daytona gets a bad rap for not "being big enough" or "wearing small". If my theory is correct, this poll will show that anyone can wear one and it will look good. Of course, I was wrong once......................

Okay, I have a small wrist, but big enough to wear a Sub comfortably. The Daytona is the perfect size for me.

It wears small as compared to other references I own - there's no doubt about that in my mind. I still love it though! It's size is great for what it is, you just have to know what you're buying when jumping into a Daytona, that's all.

I think it might appear small due to the polished bezel blending in with the other polished parts of the watch. The way I have it here with the black bezel, the full 40mm is more apparent. My wrist is 6.75.

Funny you should put this today. I went with the wife on Friday to the AD with the intention of returning with a Daytona. Played the game perfectly - tried a few on I knew she wouldn't like, tried a few on that she would complain about the price until the time was right and I slipped the Daytona on expecting admiring looks, she opened her mouth and
"It's too small, it looks smaller than your others, you need something bigger". Looks like a DSSD then.............. Incidentally my wrist is 9" and the Explorer 11 and Sub look fine in size to me but the Daytona did seem to wear smaller than what I remember from the 1st time around. (Though I may be fatter now) |

great poll.... this absolutely supports my claim with the use of non parametric statistics....(degree in stat) that where daytonas are of course great watches, their market segment is for the 7" and under crowd (50%) of vote ....i could work out the mean, median confidence interval, r factor etc but don't need to.....i have an 8 inch wrist....that daytona is too small for my wrist......the results show the market preferences....its probably smart marketing in that the majority of luxury watch buyers may have that size wrist, i have no idea.....thanks for the great thread....love the rolex forum...

PS. Buy whatever watch you want and what feels comfortable. There is no market segment for these high end watches other than people who have the money to spend and like cool expensive watches....Just a hunch on my part but also think Rolex just might have it right. Visual reference points:

however on the wrist the presence of a Daytona looks good on any size wrist and now I understand that Had my son try one on the other day who has a wrist size of 8 inches and really the watch looks great so I have proven your theory, your welcome mine, 6.5 inch wrist.... son.........8 inch wrist my biggest and my smallest......pretty much like Ken's pic above, the Daytona looks great compared to any other watch.... |

Also, I notice that your avatar has GMTII as your watch. Isn't that 40MM just like the Daytona? |

This is such a difficult answer to prove as it is entirely subjective. I am cursed with 6.5" wrists (maybe 6.75") and I struggle with watch size. Having tried many watches, I have now accepted that 40" is a maximum for me, any bigger and it just looks a little 'bling'.
However, some people are quite happy to wear a DSSD on a wrist my size; all to their own. It also depends on how you like to wear your watches; I find that if I wear a big watch a little loose, I get away with it more; whereas if I wear it tight it looks like I have a clock fixed to my wrist. Of all the pictures above, I think the Daytona suits the chap with the 8" wrist best, but it looks good on everyone I've ever seen it on (boy or girl); 40mm tends to work with most wrist sizes (albeit 5" would be too small and 9" too big), but of course this is just my opinion! I am a 40 year old bloke. I'm sure a 20 year old bloke sees the world differently to me, as does a 60 year old bloke. I enjoy wrist shot threads as they help me make a decision about what works on what wrists, but this is just my opinion; there really is not any 'right' answer.

7.25" wrist.
The "wears small" comments always confuse me. I think it wears large, but it does have a very low profile. |

7.5 inch wrist and yes it wears smaller than my exp II and it's minuscule compared to my 44MM Panerai but it's without question a very elegant watch with its own unique presence and it's still my favorite time piece Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I agree with Tkerrmd, who concludes that it doesn't wear small on his 8" wrist and imparts a distinct "presence." It is, after all, a 39.5mm watch (40mm according to Rolex) which is not what I would categorize as "small" even in today's context. I'm not sure where this comes from, as it is about the same diameter as GMTs and Subs and I've never heard either of those mentioned as small watches. IIRC the largest Rolex is 42mm, and 2.5mm just isn't that much of a difference to categorize one as "small" and the other "large."
Token74 brought up the age of the owner as a factor and I think that has merit, too. I'm 66 and can remember when 32-34mm watches were the norm for men, although it is clear that watch size has generally ballooned in the past few decades, and women now commonly wear mens watches.

you need about 65 responses to get from small sample stat (non parametric) to the beginning of parametric (can start to generalize to the general population at large). if you get about 100 or more, id be happy to do an anova (analysis of variance) for you and get some pretty cool results....we are looking at consumers that use forums etc....but its probably the only way to get these stats...rolex doesn't take wrist sizes when you buy them....btw....im looking for data on average wrist sizes and seeing from 6.5 to 8 bogus....so ill look at hand surgeon database next...
