Rolex Submariner eventually offered in another size

I'm a fan of the Submariner, but it looks so small on my wrist since to date, I wear Breitling and Panerai watches. If Rolex made the Sub in a 42-44 mm I would be thrilled and recently I had a conversation about this with my local jeweler who informed me there were previous rumors of a 43mm. Is there any truth to this and if so, when??

With today's trend that bigger and heavier is better just heard from Rolex, sometime in 2015 all watches will be made of a special lead alloy instead of SS.But this is no ordinary lead this lead is super refined and cerachrome coated. And I heard that Rolex is going to launch a range of watches Basel 2015 with interchangeable cases, ranging from 40mm, 42mm, 44mm right up to 72mm for when you want a super-size wear watch day .Now this range will be supplied with easy open case backs that are self sealing, just pop open, pop out movement and change case and wear. But again like many rumours some of these rumours are just rumours myself find the 40mm sub range a perfect size. And myself over 6ft tall and have 8 half inch wrists hope they keep the Sub SD at the same perfect size bigger is not always better.

It seems to me that the question in the original post got the quality of answers it deserved. As do many questions like this.

This is a non-affiliated fan site of mostly anonymous people from all around the world that is being asked what one of the most secretive companies will do about manufacturing a product that does not exist!

What kind of responses would you expect?

And I would really like to know why no one ever calls the company to ask these types of questions?

I thought the response was really funny a little sarcastic but not disrespectful.

I agree with beshannon that IF Rolex was going to increase the size of the sub NO ONE on this forum would have that information.

That's great news! My old eyes have more trouble now, so a 72mm would fit the bill - if the bezel's not too big, of course. I love the idea of being able to pop the back at home and fiddle around with the guts.

True, even if they have always been about the same size the new case definitely makes the watches wear bigger than it's predecessor.

While I doubt it will happen, I wouldn't put anything past Rolex, especially to do something most of us don't think they will do. But right after Basel sure seems an odd time for rumors about new stuff to be flying.

That said, I believe next year is the 100th anniversary of the brand, so some major things may be introduced at the next Basel. I don't see them replacing the current 40mm sport watches but adding say a 42mm model to some of the lines makes some sense from a business standpoint. This kind of horizontal expansion of the product line would take a relatively small R&D investment while increasing the offerings and creating a lot of buzz. At these price points it would probably help sell those customers that aren't quite sure the 40mm fits them, especially when they are comparing a Rolex to the larger offerings of the other brands. There is some precedent given the addition of the II lines to the DD and DJ, though these were probably more urgent given the 36mm size of the originals.

Not sure how much the dealer network would like it though. They don't have the capital of Rolex and would essentially have to double their inventory investment in the sport watches they carry. Doubt that aspect of it would excite them too much.

Just talking out loud.

the problem is that when you are at an AD and put alot of those watches you are talking about together the Rolex line is certainly smaller

you have to have the watch on your wrist and sized correctly to really enjoy it

I find the entire Rolex line sized very nicely to look and wear well on anybody any size

The 43mm "Submariner" is known as the Deapsea Sea Dweller. No need to adulterate the classics.

No, not a chance of that happening. Otherwise the brand new just launched SD would have been 42.
Btw, what wrist size do you have ?

DSSD is 43/44mm and the new subc wears like a 42mm so no chance.

The ceramic subs wear like a 42mm watch anyway. It is plenty big enough.

I don't think so. I believe the trend is back to the basics. The days of wearing the 44mm to 47mm hubcaps are limited......

I'm 6'2' 230lb and wear a gmt 2c...initially thought it was small when trying it on at the AD but in the end decided it's the perfect size. In fact I found the dssd to be overly chunky and gaudy on me.

I like the Deepsea, but it's too tall for me. Love the profile of the sub as it fits well with dress shirts. I love Rolex and just waiting for the perfect one for me to come along.

Btw, my wrist is 7 inches.

You're going to be waiting a long time. Honestly, probably better to find a brand mor inline with your taste.

That wrist size is perfect for a 40 mm watch !

You should allow your brain to adjust back from the oversized fashion.
It'll take a few days max and from then on you'll enjoy your sub to no end.

I have a 6.5 wrist and a short time, at the height of the big watch craze, I thought 42 to 44 was perfect. I lost sense of proportion and good taste. Even felt the Sub looked too small. Now it is hard to imagine I once thought like this and I know for sure for my wrist 36 mm is perfect.

Anyway, good luck in whatever you decide

I have heard you will be able to buy a large cyclops that fits over the watch to make it look bigger.
