TRF in danger??

I joined Instagram about a week ago and it's quite fun I have to say (was very hesitant at first). Instant feedback and many interesting folks. I worry however that substantive engagement/feedback that you can only find on a place like TRF is in danger.

Have other TRF members spent less time on TRF after discovering Instagram?

All the best.

I was going to get the app the other day, then realised it's only for iPhone, not iPad, which I would have preferred. My eyesight's going fast enough on TRF as it is, without using my iPhone any more than I need to.

Instagram is only for posting and commenting on pictures, correct? I'd rather spend my time on TRF. I enjoy the discussions (something that isn't possible on Instagram) as well as seeing the familiar faces. I feel like I learn something new here every day. I don't feel like Instagram can provide a sense of community that a forum can (and TRF certainly does).

I hear you! I love this community we have.

My concern is however that Instagram and other forms of new media may give quicker/ more instant feedback and that may be where we will all tend to gravitate eventually. I'm amazed at how many TRF members I've found on Instagram.

Yea, there's no doubt about that. I definitely see the benefits of Instagram and other similar forms of social media. I think new media and old media (as if online forums are old, I know... haha) can coexist since they offer different things.

I don't think so. I've been less on here, because I'm crazy busy at work.

I love both IG and TRF. IG is an easy way to get shots out quickly. TRF will always be a source for "More" info that you made be requiring on watches. See ya on IG buddy!

There are many more dangers to TRF than Instagram. The fault, dear Brutus, is not in the stars, but ourselves.

I agree 100%. I had Twitter and FB accts. hijacked and my compadres began getting offers of certain pharma products to improve their prowess. Muy embarrassing.

Have killed the accts. And after that I also noticed a reduction of spam getting past my emil filters - coincidence perhaps, but I think the 3rd party apps getting access to your address book is open to a lot of scammers.

I don't feel TRF is in any jeopardy. I heard someone once said Instagram is the twitter for people who can't read.

Instagram is a different platform (most people will use the app on their mobile device) and there's no real deep discussions. Just view some pictures and hit the heart button if you like it and maybe leave a comment or two. TRF is a forum where you can talk about a broad number of subjects and have more depth in the discussions. Plus TRF has higher desktop usage than mobile.

Completely different media in my opinion. IG is not a platform for people share their experiences, or their passion, or their lives the way that a forum such as this one does. Yes, both include photos and emoticons and apps and commentary, but IG can't compete with this place. No way.

Beats the hell out of me.

We often want to look at others as culprits when a good look in the mirror should keep us busy for a while (me included).

There is an amazing amount of knowledge at TRF which can never be matched by pics on Instagram. The danger I see to TRF is that the people with the burning passion and knowledge eventually grows tired of "show a picture of your Rolex and used socks" threads and move on.
