Icon7 Long-time, First-time!

I have been lurking for a long while. I wanted to say "Hello" to all and share my Rolex story:

I have been a very happy owner of a black-bezeled 16750 GMT-Master since 1985. I lived in the USA and, at that time the dollar was strong (hard to believe now!), so, at $1.18/ British Pound, I went to London to visit my brother, and I went to "Watches of Switzerland" and paid roughly $720 for my baby!! Now, the uncomfortable part of this story is the following:

The watch I passed on at Watches of Switzerland: The 6265 Daytona, of course!!! With what that watch is worth today, I could buy 10 16750's!!!

I am still quite happy with my GMT, however!!!

Welcome to TRF!

If it is any comfort to you, many have passed on the manually wound Daytonas before you.

In fact, when they were still made, those ones were the ONLY ones that you could get a great discount on (often 20 % +!).

As you state, today they are heavily sought-after and demand astromic prices.

Thanks for posting the pic of the GMT II 16750, the true quickset GMT!

BTW.: Did you know that Tom Selleck wore a GMT 16750 "Pepsi" in the tv series "Magnum, P.I."?

Enjoy your stay here!

Welcome--love the GMT. Hard to believe about the Pound. Harder to believe the same reversal has happened with the Euro in a fifth of the time.

Welcome. So true. The problem was nobody wanted a manual-winding Rolex at that time, thus the Daytona's sat unsold until they were heavily discounted. Times change.

Welcome to TRF! I've got a older GMT Master also & just changed the black bezel this weekend back to the pepsi insert. Although I'm a huge Sub guy I really do love my GMT. I wear it everyday.

hey, hi and welcom. I am also brand new to this stuff, and cant yet start a thread! dont know how, and cant find out!!

I am also an owner of a GMT II i am thinking of trthe larger triplock crown and the clasp and bracelet of the new GMT II, what are your thoughts?ading in for a new model 116710, but cant decide if i really need to or not, i like the classic look of the old GMT II and the small movement bezel (very handy for egg timing!) but i prefer
