I did it my way.

I got my Seiko Sumo back in Jan 2014 and was impressed by the build quality. These Japanese domestic models are unlike those Seikos we normally see in shopping malls. They comes with better movements & better finishing on the casing/bracelets etc.

The usual upgrade path for sumo buyers are the usual marine master mm300. Somehow I did a different upgrade comparing to the rest of the sumo buyers. I got myself a sub c 1 month after getting the sumo.

Have been rotating between these 2 for almost 3 weeks and the sumo seems to be be more accurate than the sub c. The sub c seems to be running at -2.5 daily and the sumo at -1.5. Both are acceptable to me but the Sumo seems like a solid performer even without the cosc tag and running at 21600 bph. Also at 1/15 cost of the sub c.

All very good points. Please PM me for my address so you can get rid of that Sub and devote all of your wrist time to the superior SUMO.

Nothing beats the feeling of having a watch that makes you truly happy and if the sumo is everything you want in a watch so be it. I happen to own 2 and early on when I started down my own horological journey I was enamored by the sumo as well. I have the black one which I slightly modified:

And the blue one as well:

But then I finally got my first rolex – the subC date; and then some…

The sumo is a well made, very accurate watch and at its price range it is difficult to beat, but price is not the only consideration. The sumo feels top heavy and a bit uncomfortable to me. My subC date is way more balanced and maybe because I can adjust the fit via the glide lock it feels way more comfortable than the sumo. On most days now the sumos stay in the box. I still use them for times when I feel a rolex is inappropriate but these times are becoming fewer as I get more and more accustomed to my crowns. If I could start my watch journey all over again – I would have bought my skx007, skipped everything else in between and gone straight for Rolex. Individual results may vary - but when it comes to watches it really is best to do it your way

Nice Sumo and Sub, congrats. The Spork was my first automatic watch. I wore it daily for over one year. Had Harold instal a sapphire crystal. I flipped it then bought another one 6 months later…..but the magic was gone….sold it immediately.

Nothing wrong with a good sumo but it is not the sub. Both are extremely accurate under your readings.

I suspect the sub could be more accurately adjusted if the desire was there. I had a new Rolex running at -12/day and it came back from adjustment right about -1 per day. Not bad. Cheaper Seiko and less likely to apprecitate at all or even keep its value. All that glistens is not golden. Enjoy your watches and wear what you want.

I prefer all my Rolex watches to run at +.

Then I just have to hack them for a few seconds /week.

Good to appreciate ALL levels of watches. But we all have our favorites, mine are Rolex.

Just bought a used amazing Belair watch Sapphire crystal, solid bracelet, amazing for under $100 bucks, wearing it the last few days. I appreciate it. It has a place in the stable. But still nothing like sliding on my Blusey Sub C.

Point being, good to appreciate all types of timepieces.

You did good by getting the sub c. I've owned the mm300 twice convincing myself to get along with the crown. Even the sumo has a better crown. Some learn to live with it and at a third of the price of the sub might be a itch worth scratching still.

I will say, though, that every other aspect of the mm300 is on par with the sub except the lume. The mm300 lume blows the sub out of the water. The mm300 bracelet isn't close to the glidelock though... I found the links a little too long and the clasp can be described as the ancestor to the glidelock.

This is why the Pelagos appeals to me so much right now as it ticks off all the mm300 boxes but I fear ill eventually want the ND subC after the honeymoon phase. So good choice!

something similar. because the usual upgrade for a sumo owner should be the mm300. i did something out of the norm and got a more expensive piece.

i wanted to get the mm300 but the dial seems to be seated very deep under the case.

The display caseback and engineer bracelet come from Harold of Yobokies. Unfortunately it is not guaranteed to be water resistance at 200m so I wouldn't use it on a sumo for diving. No problems though for hand washing and the occasional drink spill

If I got another Seiko dive watch it would be the SBDX001 Marinemaster 300.

I started humming along to the Sex Pistols' version as I read this. I love Sid's rendition.
