It should be safe to wear your Rolex during the day in Istanbul, but I would be careful in bars and nightclubs. I would also be careful walking at night on side streets. Don't flaunt your watch.

I'd use this sort of caution in ANY city.

I can see if you're traveling through Europe, London, Paris, etc. If you're just going to Turkey, what's the upside to bringing your valuable watch?

I wore my rolex and didn't feel worried. Others in the party had some high watches and suspect they felt equal safe. We hit the city's bar, clubs, baths, restaurants, etc... I also assume yours is well insured like mine.

Istanbul is safer than France. (i'm french).
Do not forget to visit fener and balat, and to go by boat to anadolu kavagi, climb the hill to the cimetery and see the entry of the red sea.

I wouldn't personally, but then again my personal security has been adapted with the help of 22 years in the Military. It's all fine until you take a wrong turn. It's really not worth it if you feel the need to ask such a question, IMO. Wear your (other) watch instead.

I've been in Istanbul, very cosmopolitan, friendly people, never felt unsafe.
Most cities in Europe are OK for that matter, as long if you don't wander off to the wrong neighbourhood in the middle of the night. I don't think it differs a lot from the US safety wise. |

Last summer we toured Italy for a few weeks and I went to Walmart and bought a $39 watch to wear and I regret not wearing my Rolex

I've never felt unsafe anywhere...
would wear my Watches anywhere... But then again...the "wrist to Biceps ratio" factors into it... I think you'd have to ask yourself...I you saw yourself walking down the street, would you seem like an very easy target for a mugger, or would they wait and choose an easier target... if you're frail...wear a timex...if you seem like you might put up a fight...they will stay away... |

Taken from OSAC.GOV
'The overall crime rate remains lower than that of other cities of comparable size. One out of 66 people in Istanbul is a victim of a crime. While the majority of crime is non-violent, there have been violent criminal acts committed against tourists and the expatriate community. These types of crimes tend to be crimes of opportunity and are not common. Criminal incidents involving foreigners tend to be concentrated in tourist areas, such as Taksim Square, Istiklal Caddesi, Sultanahmet, and the Grand Bazaar. The most common crimes involve theft, pick-pocketing, bag-snatching, and purse slashing. Muggings are rare but are becoming more common. Violent crime against tourists and the expatriate community is also very rare.' |

Old Istanbul is an amazing place, you will be fine, just use common sense on an evening. I lived there for a year or so, stayed near Topkarpi Palace in Old Istanbul.

Istanbul, turkey
Hello to all..
I live half year in UK and half year in Turkey. And I am Turkish. I would say this question should answered only who is visited of Istanbul. The all others will be just guess or thinking... But you need to know reality,, YES ITS SAFE TO WEAR ROLEX ANYWHERE IN ISTANBUL. !!! But can you wear your rolex ? Glasgow, Leeds , Bradford , Birmingham, etc ? When I am in Leeds or Birmingham. I do not wear my rolex. But 12 months 24 hours in Istanbul. Remember that, in Europe has more thief or stolon item then in Istanbul. I can recommended to listen who has been in Istanbul. They would tell you what's right. Thank you Obalu |
