Swap out the Tudor for a Rolex?
So I purchased a Tudor Glamour Date 36mm a couple of months ago at an AD. It was an impulse purchase, it just caught my eye while I was looking at the Black Bay.
I wore it for a while and liked it much more than I thought. The 36mm dimensions feel really good on my wrist, and I kind of appreciate the change of pace in both size and look from my Sub. I've always liked that Rolex Oyster "look", and having established the comfort of the 36mm size, I've been thinking of swapping it out and getting a Datejust or Oyster Perpetual. If I do that the Tudor has to go, since I doubt it'll get any wrist time. But I'm also kind of stepping back and wondering if I'm looking for a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. I like the Tudor, besides the obvious (movement difference) I don't find much to fault with it in terms of fit and finish compared to a Rolex. Plus since I already have a Sub, it does give a nice diversity in terms of having a Rolex and a Tudor. And instead I could apply the extra funds to getting a dress watch instead. Anyways, what do you guys think? Flip the Tudor and get a OP/DJ? Or keep and look for a dress watch? Here's a quick pic of my duo: |

I like Tudor, there are so many nice DJs on the used market I don't understand why you bought the model Tudor in the first place.

I'm looking forward to seeing the 34mm Tudor Style, model 12300, I think.
Should be in stock late summer or so. Wondering what list price is . . . |

I think I would do the flip with the Tudor - but must admit a bias. Haven't been fan of Tudor in past for myself. No disrespect of them just not a fan. Have always had a soft spot for Omega whenever buying something other than Rolex.

That's a nice Tudor, so I don't see any reason from my own perspective to part with it, as it is not a common watch, at all.
It's quite distinctive in it's own way and adding a DJ or an OP to the mix wouldn't detract anything from the others. Personally, I'd add a DJ on a Super Jubilee.

Keep the Tudor. It is not as common and is a very nice piece.

It seems like you're already set on trading the Tudor for a Rolex. Ask yourself, "What do I really want?"
Tudors are nice, but they are no Rolex. I would absolutely trade for a DJ or OP. There is nothing wrong with having more than one Rolex. |

Flip the Tudor and get a OP/DJ~ IMHO
I have found if I question my decision and think I should have gone a different direction I probably should have. My Wife is doing this with a Rolex we got for her just a few months ago. Get what you really want and you will be happy!

Personally I would flip it for a DJ however it all depends on what you want. If your heart is telling you to flip it for another Rolex, go for it!

Personally, I would flip it. Go to a nice Datejust. Your Sub will likely get the most wrist time no matter what you decide on doing. Good luck!

I have come to respect the Tudor after hanging out here, so I am looking at going the other direction! I have the DJ, and want a Tudor Chrono. If you like the Tudor, I'd suggest wearing it for another year or two, while watching the sales section. If you find a DJ that calls to you, you can buy it and then sell the Tudor.

Flip for a Rolex. Tudor was established as the cheaper, baby brother--enough said. In the words of Hans Wisldorf: "A watch that our agents could sell at a more modest price than our Rolex watches."

Why have a Tudor when you can have a four door? (J/K) From my perspective there isn't a Tudor made that would win me out over a modern Rolex. I'd be happy to have a Rolex instead of the Tudor and wouldn't let my attachments to things present get in the way of progress. Get the Rolex and don't look back or keep the Tudor and get the Rolex and sell the Tudor when the spirit moves you.

That was funny, thanks for the laugh
OP, you came to the same conclusion as I have years ago. The 36mm is a great size and very comfortable. I have several Rolex watches in 40 mm but they hardly see wrist time anymore. And when they do I can't wait to switch back to any of my DJ's (or DD). I can imagine your desire to wear the 36mm will increase even more when you have it in the iconic brand we all love. Tudor is nice for sure but the pleasure of wearing a Rolex is more than just the watch. I disagree. When people realize what a great daily watch a DJ is, going back to something else ain't easy. If I could keep only one Rolex it would have to be a SS DJ.
