Brand new DJ - Runs fast.

I have a brand new DJ that I just started wearing and I have noticed that it runs about 1.5 seconds fast each day. I tried to 'regulate' it by placing it stem down and stem up over the last few days and that has absolutely no effect.

Is this within spec?

I guess i'm a little disappointed in the accuracy of this very expensive timepiece. Is being fast 1.5 seconds a day better than any other 'perpetual' watch manufacturers?

COSC specs are minus 4 to plus 6 seconds a day... Rolex adjusts their watches slightly tighter at minus 1 to plus 5.

So your DJ is well within specs and is actually running VERY accurately!

If you want better accuracy, you wanna pick up a quartz or even radio-controlled watch.......

1.5 seconds per day...45 seconds per month....9 minutes per year. Ya, that's a terrible watch you have there.

No mechanical watch at any price will keep perfect time at the moment your watch is more than 99.998% accurate.Remember the escapement of a mechanical watch in 24 hours pushes the gears 432,000 times plus there are 86400 seconds in a day.Now all Swiss chronometer watches are tested to perform to a AVERAGE of between -4 to +6 seconds over any 24 hour period and certification is only at the time of testing. Your watch exceeds that at the moment and showing fantastic accuracy and perpetual means nothing more than a automatic winding movement.

I think there is just a simple misunderstanding of mechanical watches.

1.5 seconds per day is actually fantastic.

1.5 s/day is great....be happy! I have a G series DJ that runs +1 s/day and leaving it crown up overnight loses that second so it's spot on in the morning. If leaving it crown/up down has no effect, try leaving it straight up, resting on the 6:00 marker. It's most easily done by placing it on its box pillow and just setting it upright in the box, as though it were on display. I've found that will lose even more seconds.

Maybe your watch isn't running fast. Maybe the rest of us are running just a little bit slow.

Don't be disappointed by the accuracy.
It's well within specs, and It's very good.
The fact that it's not affected by changes in the resting position confirms that it's one of the better ones.

The main thing is that it's consistent from day to day.
That's the most important consideration as it goes to it's precision.
Accuracy can be adjusted.
Precision is inherent, and a requirement above all else.

You could also try resting it at 6 o'clock down with the crown to the right overnight to see what happens.
Also resting with the dial facing up or down could speed it up or slow it down.
See how it goes.
It's a part of it's own character, and it's a unique miniature mechanical marvel

My Sub runs at about -.80 second per day and that makes me happy as pig in poo! Your watch is running great, no worries. Many here would love to be getting the accuracy that you're getting.
Welcome to TRF, really great bunch here.

I'd guess that most on here would be happy with that. Though some are more OCD than others.

I just put her away for the night but you talked me into it. She's still stickered. I can't bring myself to strip her down just yet. :)

That is a beautiful watch you have there. Always had a soft spot for that color combination. And it sounds like it's running great, too. I would be very happy with +1.5 sec/day gain...astounding when you think about it really. Congrats and enjoy.

OK so now you know how good this particular time piece is running. Enjoy and wear it in good health.

Really most quartz watches are +/- 0.5 sec per day anyway.

It says "STEEL ROMAN" on the card. I've seen this dial color referred to as dark grey, steel or rhodium so I'm not sure if it can be truly called rhodium. I'll defer to the experts here to add to this discussion.
