Should have never went to the AD

So I went into the AD today to look at a sub-c to see if it fits my wrist and to see if they had a LV in stock to try it out. Boy, was that a bad idea. I got to try on a variety of watches during lunch and here are my impressions:

Sub-c- Thought it would be heavy, but not as bad as I thought it would be. I thought it would look ridiculous on my wrist. It's big, but definitely doable. Love the shiny ceramic bezel. Great watch. But boring- don't want more black (already have a Explorer I and want something with more color). Put it on just to see if it would fit. Next.

Hulk? It's a no-show. They said that it's extremely rare and they've been trying to get one in stock but as soon as it shows up, it's gone. No discounts on it- retail all the way.

Sub-c TT with blue dial and bezel- I've seen it everywhere on TRF and just not interested. Looks tacky and cheap. Not a big fan of the steel, gold, and blue. It's just wrong. The salesman said they just got this in and it's amazing with the sunburst dial. Yeah, whatever, but I'm not going to say no to try on a Rolex, even one as awful looking as this. The salesman gave it to me and it looked ridiculous in my hands, and I put it on my wrist.

OK.
Wait.
Ignore that first bit... FANTASTIC WATCH!

Yacht-Master TT with blue dial- never a fan of the YM but it looked gorgeous in the case. Could this be the one? My next watch? It was love at first sight. Put it on the wrist and I knew it wasn't for me. One of those watches where it looks great in pics and in the case but doesn't work with me. Exact opposite of the Sub-c TT.

Daytona TT with black dial- at 40mm, it really does wear smaller. It's heavier than I thought it would be. Looks good but something was missing- not a fan of the dial. Still conflicted- it looks great but I know I'll just use it to tell time.

36mm YG Day-Date- Heavy? Yes, but not as heavy as I expected. To be honest, and this sounds crazy, it didn't seem to be tacky on my wrist. I always had thought it would look really tacky, just had that stereotypical image of a gold Rolex watch owner in my head. But it was none of that. I like it. The fluted bezel was the shiny, flashy part of the watch. 36mm is small, tiny compared to my 39mm Explorer I. But, a solid gold DD has wrist presence. Cancels out the small size.

So I came in hoping to see what a Hulk looks like on my wrist with plans to get it and now... I'm all over the place. The plan was to buy one more SS model or not. Then get a YG model several years later.

Now the TT sub-c with sunburst dial has thrown a wrench into the plans! The moral of the story is that a picture is worth a thousand words, but wrist time will tell you what you want!

The watch fund can't go over $10K. I thought the TT sub-c was out but looks like I might be able to get one under that here. Which makes my decision that much harder.... hulk or blue tt sub-c. If I could try on a hulk, I'd probably be able to make up my mind... Love both in terms of color. I guess the only question is what a TT will look like after a couple of years, when it's all beat-up...

Well interesting reactions and my kinda fun!

I have the LV and a TT sub. If was going to be your one and only would go TT. If adding a SS then LV

The LV is an amazing piece and changes a lot with light. It is fine as a stand alone but not for everyone. Makes a great addition to a collection.

Agreed. I think it makes a great addition to a collection.

It didn't work for me as a second watch.

I am surprised it was hard to find. It's been in every Ad I've entered.

What about a BLNR?

... and that's the solution to my problem- get both but the bank account and wife don't agree with that.

Do you have any more pics of your Bluesy? It still looks fantastic after all those years. Was it a daily wearer? Any stretch issues?

The AD I go to is a small shop so I wasn't expecting them to have the Hulk. They do have a good selection for the shop it is though.

Can't do the BLNR, I've been blinded by the 116718 with green dial!
And I like dive watches more, just a preference.

So the question is what do I go for?

I've already got the somber, understated 214270. I love it to bits, but that's enough black and enough understated for me. So I want something fun.

The Hulk with it's green is playful, but definitely the more conservative of the two. This is a watch I would feel comfortable wearing to work. So if I go with this, I would be able to wear it to work, at home, on the weekends. And I love the green color and how unique it is. It looks great (at least in the pics). A Hulk would a) not steal wrist time from the grail (which would be the weekend watch/no work watch) and b) the money saved getting the hulk would go toward the grail. But it would fight among the exp 1 for wrist time.

The Bluesy is flash and showy and the exact opposite of my 214270. Which is good, I don't want to buy more of the same thing. And it's got a bit of gold, which I also like. But I feel it's a bit too showy for work. Which means it would be the special weekend watch. And the 214270 would be the daily wearer- and I've got no problem with that plan. But then the Bluesy would compete with the grail for wrist time and I know I don't want to drop DD money on another weekend piece. But maybe after several years it will be just another watch in the lineup and I'll feel comfortable wearing it.

Right now it's a tie...

Every time I go into a Rolex shop I end up looking at the latest version of my TT DJ.

I know that sounds boring but it's nice to have one's grail...

The TT and solid gold blue face Submariner IMHO is the best looking Rolex ever made. They do look just as nice years down the road " when it's all beat-up". This one has my vote!

Going to an AD is DANGEROUS. Ugh. I went into one to browse, walked away with a SS black oyster for wife, TT bluesy for me.

Truer words were never spoken. Here's hoping you find what you really want.

Wait to try on the hulk, but the glitz and glamour of the sunburst bluesy sure is intoxicating.

My AD has a Hulk on display. They have to special order them but had a guy order and not buy it. If you want I can give you their Tel # (they are small and have no website).

My decision was between the TT Blue and the Hulk. I went with the Hulk for the same reasons you stated, but may pick up a used TT Subc down the road. I think they are beautiful, but definitely a bit showy.

Thank you for the offer, love this forum, but I'm in no rush and want to try to see one in person.

And Mystro, great watch and great picture!
