buying, selling, flipping for the perfect collection

Is it common to buy, sell and flip your watches to make a perfect collection? Or do you usually people just stick to the watch they buy?

I own a DDII YG (which I just bought 3 months ago) and a TT Sub 116613 black dial. I Now feel that i want the YG Sub 116618 instead of YG DDII (which suits my lifestyle more as I believe the DD II is a very formal watch) and an AP 26320 Rose gold with strap as 2 of my watches rather than the collection I own. For that il have to change both my watches. I know il probably loose some money doing this and its not really easy to sell & buy (at least of me coz I've never done it before).. its really occupying my mind lately

Judging by the amount of selling activity on this forum, flipping is quite common. There was a lovely thread a couple of weeks ago where a poster mentioned about a dozen of watches he has flipped in a fairly short period of time.

With me it is simple--I buy the classics I'd love to keep forever. One of each models would not hurt. Doubling up on several edition of the same model is not really for me.

The ole flip! I've done it a few times but trying to stay away from that now. DDII is a great one IMHO and wouldn't trade for any submariner.

I like to do flipping. But I do keep the models but if I see any upgrades then I flip it for that. For example I flipped my first SS black Sub for a TT Sub with a blue face. My next flip will be my DD to a DDII. I like keeping the model in general though.

I flipped a few times to get two pieces that fit me better than the ones I started out with. Nothing wrong learning what works and what doesn't and how you achieve it.

Flipping quickly always means losing money for me, yet I keep doing it, mostly to step up. It's easier to put money into watches a few grand at a time to upgrade than to buy whole watches at a time. I feel like I'm close to a perfect little collection, but I'm sure I'm far from done :)

Flippling has been a big part of the last few years for me. Actually owning and wearing a watch is the only way I can tell if I really like love it. Trying them on in AD's just doesn't work. When I end up buying a watch for the second time I pretty much know that it should be a keeper.

I always find that when I see watches on other peoples wrists they look better! Anyone else find this?

could be a straightforward business. buying rolexes in switzerland (probably save 20% and no tax), flying them back and peddling on ebay.

I flip constantly till I find the right piece. Then I aquire a bunch more and flip them for another right piece. It makes the high ticket watches less alarming to the bank account.

I expect most of TRF do some flipping action, there are a few that are happy with one or two pieces, but most are looking to change tastes. I feel I have reached the end when I start feeling bad about changing. I think all of my current are keepers, but would like to ad an ALS or traditional AP Royal Oak at some point. my Piaget probably last watch left that may get flipped.

I am 28 years old, and after wearing the YG DDII for a month, I think its a watch for a maturer person.. Maybe when I'm lets say 50... let me put it in another way.. In car terms its a Rolls Royce Phantom.. No doubt its a great car, but more suited for a maturer person... I would probably be better of with a ferrari or a lambo... In watches terms Id equate that to a yellow gold sub and a AP 26320 Rose gold.. But thats just how I feel... what do you say?

yg presidential... that's like warren buffett or donald trump. to me, yellow gold anything is flashy/macho, it works for some people. i like flying low, some flash some normal... like an m or amg.

datejust with some wg and diamonds was a perfect fit here. i can wear it to weddings or the beach, with jeans or a suit. i have the watch equivalent of an m3.

so i guess the yg question is about distancing: do you wanna be ballin' from a mile away? or make people take a second look lol

At 29, I agree with you. It's a good looking watch, but I feel at least mid 30's to wear one. And probably only on weekends then.

I love the rose gold DDII with the chocolate roman dial. I definitely want this watch when I get older. But I may wait as long as retirement.
