After around 2.5 years of collecting dings and scratches on my case and bracelet, the insert on my Sub C Date remains pristine.

I tried but it wouldn't. I had better luck scratching my clasp.

To quote Rolex themselves "it is virtually impervious to scratches"

I had what looked like a very light scratch on the bezel of my SubC. Was very hard to see except at a very acute angle with the light just right.
So, I wiped the bezel off on my jeans to get a better look, and the scratch disappeared! Amazing this new self-healing slither of ceramic!

Nope but marks elsewhere, the ceramic bezel is pretty impressive.

This. But keep in mind that the numbers and marks on the bezel could get scratched... just ask my wife .
My wife also has a J12 that is made of ceramic and if you look close enough you can see tiny micro scratches on the bracelet. Very hard to see, but they are there. |

these watches aren't going to age well I imagine...
the entire watch will be patina'd but the bezel will look brand new. |

I saw a thread where someone crashed on their motorcycle and scratched the insert. After using steady hands and a dremel tool to polish it, it looked as good as new.

I've owned my Sub for over a year now, and I disagree.
You know what's going on! I would say that the ceramic bezel is definitely prone to scratches. One can expect this if they aren't "babying" their watch. |

Sure have:
http://www.rolexforums.com/showpost....4&postcount=33 I've mentioned this happening before but this is the only thread I could dig-up. Although I don't own a ceramic version currently it's best to just be careful. It is a robust material but on par in terms of scratches with the sapphire crystal IMHO. Any material moving briskly against another hard material will damage it... I proved that. |

Don't use a cape cod cloth near it.
Do a search someone posted about a year ago they were trying to polish a scratch on the bezel ring and touched the ceramic with it. I think it left a smudge |

I have a 25-yr-old sub with no scratches on the (original) bezel. It seems to me that no one really thought much about scratched bezels till "scratch resistant" ceramics came along. Now people, mostly ceramic owners apparently, seem to obsess over them.

I'm going on one and a half years on my 116710 worn daily. I have scratches, swirlies, and even some minor dents on the crown guards from them doing their job. I've hammered my watch into too many door knobs. I hate those things! But they sure are useful. So far, no marks on my bezel.

You wish.
There have been several posts over the years on this forum alone with photographic proof of a ceramic scratch and tales of a $500+ replacement and RSC spa visit. Cracks and breaks as well. As an aside, when someone posts one of these things and then people ask for evidence it makes my skin crawl. People turn to the forum for help and they are not so subtly implied to be a liar. Happens every time.

I've yet to see a scratched ceramic bezel. Not saying it couldn't happen but the watch would need to suffer some major blunt trama for that to happen I would think.

Ceramic is not scratch-proof. It can happen and has happened.
Does Rolex even market their ceramic bezels as scratch-proof or is it just a rumor that started on the internet? |
