A test of willpower... (and a nod to DAVIDSW)

So I'm due for a promotion at work. To commemorate the promotion (whenever it happens), I wanted to get a new watch. Specifically, a DJ 116234. Of course I reached out to the amazing DAVIDSW and it took a few weeks but he got one and it arrived yesterday (btw, he got the watch on Thursday afternoon...sent him the funds late afternoon west coast time, had the watch Friday morning at 9:30AM! All the way from FL to CA, wow.). Once the package was in hand, I had my wife open it while showing her a picture of what the watch should look like so she can confirm the right one was inside...without me seeing/feeling/hearing the watch at all. As soon as she confirmed, I told her to put everything back into the FedEx box. I sealed it up and put it away where I won't see it everyday. I will not open it back up until the promotion happens and I'm praying I didn't jinx it by getting the commemoration gift before it actually happens! My boss told me the executive meeting to approve/reject the promos is happening Monday, 8/25...fingers crossed.

If it doesn't happen this time around, the watch will stay where it is until next quarter when promos are reviewed again...lets hope it's not a vintage piece before I get to enjoy it,

I hope you get your promotion but if you don't forget about it and enjoy your new watch. Either way you earned it.

Treat yourself. Don't let it just sit in an unopened box waiting for a decision that is out of your hands. Don't let other decide whether or not you deserve a new watch.

If I did that I'd have none.

Wear it, enjoy it, be happy and healthy. Life is too short to have a fine watch sitting in a box for who knows how long.

DAVIDSW must sell more new Rolexes than most ADs. I don't know how he does it! Once I've opened it and have taken wrist shots, I'll be posting a rave review in the 'Who's Who' section...not that he needs any more positive references! It doesn't get better than David.

Thanks, I know. But its just how my personality works...I don't like opening Christmas gifts before Christmas morning (although my wife ALWAYS wants to open "just one" the night before) and I just like things happening as they should and when they should. At the same time, I completely agree life is too short and we all should live it to the fullest...which is why I bought the watch to begin with (rather than save the money or do something else with it)! Also, I think I like the suspense...and it helps motivate me to continue working hard in the meantime.

Congrats in advance. I put my Sub on layaway a full 6 months before my retirement date because if I had it in the house before then I just know that I wouldn't have had the willpower to not wear it. It was all that I could do not to wear it the week before once I did have it in the house! Kudos to you!
