Date magnification issue..

So I noticed this on a couple of watches I have and quite a few at ADs, there is less magnification, and I'm curious.

Is it a factory decision or a mis-step in Rolex's manufacturing process.

Pic of my Exp II polar with less magnification.. Hope for everyone to chime in. Thanks!

There were some earlier posts regarding this
It seems that the newer versions of Explorer II and Sub seem to have less than the standard 2.5 x magnification which if I was spending that kind of money I wouldn't be happy

My sentiments exactly, it seems to be a batch thing, so far 2 of my DJII and the above ExpII have the smaller magnification.

In general this gives off an uneven look.

Have you discussed this issue with your AD ?

I will give them a call in a couple of hours, but I think there is not much they can do except to suggest bringing it to RSC, which I'm not keen because of past experience.

Thanks Chris!

Thanks Chris!
You're welcome
Someone needs to make it right and I'd like to think Rolex will as always stand behind their brand

Get a ND or SD and it's not an issue.

I have owned many Rolex watches over the past few years. It always seems that the subs are very inconsistent with this magnification. The Datejust II's seem to mostly have it correct more often. But this is 100% unacceptable from Rolex and one huge gripe I have about them considering the prices they charge. Right now if you were to go into the FS section here on the forum, you will see some subs and datejusts that look perfect (the date fills out the entire cyclops) and on the other hand you will see the same model watch with a much smaller date magnification across the same models. I thought at first it was the later model watches with random serial numbers and such, but this proved to be false when I saw some V and G serial watches with inconsistencies also, and the random serial number watches have the correct and incorrect magnification too - so at the moment there doesn't seem to be a common denominator as to which watches the inconsistent magnification applies to.

This has been good on for years! Both my watches are from 2010 and one is normal and the other is smaller mag. My 2012 BLNR also had a smaller date. None of it makes sense other than facts.

1. This has been going on for at least 5 years
2. Rolex doesn't care
3. Rolex removed the verbiage
4. Most people don't even know there is a discrepancy

Well rolex will soon have to take notice with all these complaints on watch forums! Does not look good for rolex though!

I have Called up a lot of AD'S and also all the Rolex service centers. Over the phone not one person has said this is an issue and everyone says "never heard of this problem". I asked them what about Rolex changing their website and removing the verbiage? Once again. Oh Rolex always tweaks and changes things but we are not sure exactly. So pretty much this is a giant waste of time. This just makes Rolex watches look like fakes by them selling these inconsistent pieces.

GerrardoG recent post states that the Rolex rep he spoke to directly had did that this was a bad batch
Send them back and get a new crystal with larger cyclops mag.

I have the same Explorer II as you and the magnification on mine is fine. Definitely something not right with the one you received. There are a couple threads about this issue on TRF that you could search as a reference for any type of resolution.

I hope your AD will make it right for you.
