White Dial Daytona 116520 or 16520 zenith movement

I am usually in the camp that newer is better but I was wondering what you all would choose.

I'll be curious to hear the answers to this one also. I'm seriously thinking of getting a white dial Daytona also. I like the look of the black subdials but condition is important to me and I don't think the current clasp was available on the Zenith editions.

I'd highly recommend the 116520, rolex don't make changes for the sake of it, only to improve.

I do like the white dial on the 16520 though

I think a lot of guys on here are still big on the Zenith movement. Im not, no disrespect to those that like it, however for me the newer the better. I have no sentimental reasons or feelings for the old non-inhouse movement.

I say go as new as you can!

X2 to me the black sub dials are nicer against the white but is that enough to get past the newer clasp and additional "upgrades" on the 116520.

I think the Zenith Daytona is WAY better looking then any of the newer models...

Mine keeps perfect time, is super comfortable and has never given me any trouble what so ever...

Not sure how you can improve upon that..

The 16520 sub dials look a lot better than the 116520 which is too bland for my liking. Black sub dial rings on a white dial are a sure for winner. The porcelain dial 16520 is amazing.

Beautiful...I also like the brushed lugs on the Zenith.

Get the more recent model.

The bracelet and clasp upgrade alone trumps the slightly looking better dial of the predecessor model. Plus, the new one is 100% Rolex through and through

The modern 116520 with the 4130 inhouse movement has an excellent power reserve.

Get the newer one. Great power reserve, keeps excellent time, and I like the position of the second hand subdials at 6 o'clock versus 9.

I really like the silver subdials with concentric circles as well. It almost makes the subdials look like they are on a different level that the rest of the white; gives the watch some dimension. I'm a big fan of the polished lugs, solid center links, and the easy link clasp as well.

You won't be disappointed. Mine has been a daily for 6 months now.

Although the 16520 looks really good with the black sub-dial, after-all, you are buying an upgrade brand new watch with no too much price difference.

The Calibre 4130 one of the best chronograph movements produced and I find the modern bracelet more comfortable. I agree that the old dial is a bit more beautiful but paying the same money for a product is not as good?

I used to have an A-serial black dial 16520. Love the look but it was impossible to tell time quickly. What is the point of a $10,000 male bracelet?

Another vote for aesthetics of Zenith dial over newer model. Don't be fooled by the close up photos of newer model which cause one to think the subdials have a beautiful contrast to the white dial. Thanks to Rolex apparent love of glare the dial wears much more washed out looking. I've owned both and found current model boring except when looking directly at dial in a glare free setting.

rolex didn't make changes, they just started producing their own movement because they couldn't get enough of the Zenith, hence the Daytona scarcity of the time.


for the record, i think the black outlined subdials on the white dial look fantastic.

Anyone can go buy a new Daytona. It takes patience, good luck and diligence to own a Serial #A Zenith Daytona. I own a bunch of watches, so none of them are truly worn daily. I like the classic look of the white with black. It would be nice to have the newer clasp, but this clasp works just fine.

I like the look of the Zenith model more because of the subdials position and the brushed lugs; on the other hand, I like the in house caliber more because it's really a great modern interpretation of what a chronograph movement should be: vertical clutch, greater power reserve, hacking seconds and so on.

Moreover, the current model is an incredible step forward wrt the bracelet.

The only advice I can give you is to try then both because they look very different on the wrist.

The 116520 is perfection. To me, the newer bracelet wins out although the zenith dial looks very very nice .
