Has anyone on here ever used this service to buy or sell a watch? I got an offer from a guy interested in buying one of my watches and he wants to go through this service for the transaction. The guy is in Singapore and I'm very leary and skeptical about this deal. I'm hoping someone who has used an escrow service before can enlighten me.

Thanks for the input! I think I'll steer clear from this potential nightmare.

Felly:

I looked at the site and it seems like a legitimate business. Like the other gentleman posted some of these are scams though this one seems to have a large amount of endorsements even by E-bay itself. The fee structure seems to be where the higher the purchase price, the cheaper their fee. This seems odd as one would think it would be the other way around. Say on a $7,000 selling price constitutes a 1.40% fee which would be $98.00. That seems high when you get slammed by many other fees as well. Especially with E-bay services where you get a fee for listing, selling and, PayPal extracts a fee also. In this place it claims to protect the buyer and seller. The buyer gets an opportunity to inspect the watch and the seller does not give authorization for the item to be released until he/she gets paid.

Good luck with your auction.

Thanks for the input Terry.

Another thing that really bugs me is this guy has 0 feedback. He gave me a name to ship it to, but HIS name is different! I really think I smell a rat!

Hi Terry you are quite right in what you say but i have heard to many stories of scammers using escrow from asia and africa that i would not even consider using it and i thought i would tell Felly. Im sure if you google it you will find some examples. I dont know the reasons why but i would rather be safe then sorry. Another member got stung out of $4000 using a similar payment method-it was the other way around but still rather safe thn sorry

I don't think it's worth the trouble. Just wait for a better customer. One overseas deal went fine doesn't mean the next one is the same

I called a good friend today to inquire about this escrow business and he told me that there are a ton of scams going on where escrow services are used, especially from Asia. He said to drop it like a hot potato and forget about it!

I agree with you all. Especially with foreign buyers. Unfortunately it ends up being like Nigerian or Malaysia scams. No offense to the legitimate folks in those countries. I agree also to be better safe than sorry. You'll get a better customer likely that will pay you for the watch with no hassles involved.

Good luck with your sale. It's a beautiful watch you're selling. You deserve to get your asking price.

You can check this if you want- about escrow scams with ebay. http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y02/m10/i25/s01

Anyway best of luck with the sale- seems like its going fine without this scammers bid!

I just did some research on www.escroway.com and they are not a secure site. (http instead of https) My browser does not have the lock logo when logged on, and they just started this domain name two days ago. Also, they are not registered with the BBB. What's more, they are SUPPOSEDLY based in the UK. There is no phone number or address to contact them either, only an email address, that I'm sure is bogus as well.

AVOID THIS ESCROW SERVICE AT ALL COST, IT'S A SCAM!!

Wow. Was I ever wrong. I looked them up again and they claim to be an E-bay partner. I checked on E-bay's web site and they say that www.escrow.com is the only legitimate escrow service that they approve of.

I am sorry for the mistake and glad that other's piped in. I would hate to see someone here at TRF get scammed because of something I endorsed. Please accept my apology. I should have researched them further before stating that they looked O.K.

Felly: you've got excellent advice here...forgeddabout it.
best, dan
p.s. since you are an honest seller, why should you bend over backwards to sell the real deal?

Cant believe im still awake got my exams starting tomorrow. Anyway The only reason i knew about all this escrow stuff is through ebay. Escrow is a legitimate site but loads of scammers create spoof escrow sites with fake credit cards- you only find out after you have sent the goods. The lengths some people will go to is disgusting and quite worrying

Hey Terry, don't beat yourself up about it! It's all good pal.
At first glance it looked good to me as well, so we all need to watch (pun intended) each others back and I'm really glad there is a provision on here for stuff like this!

Felly,

With your excellent record on Ebay and your history on TRF etc. I would expect a potential buyer to remit full payment to you and wait while you arrange secure postage of the item. I would not accept anything less than this.
I too have been watching your sales with interest as you would expect.
