A question for 114060 owners, past and present.
Hello all,
As per the title of the thread I'd like to ask you something. I'm sure we can all agree that this timepiece is a horological masterclass in terms of symmetry and evolution which is one of the reasons why I made the purchase. Anyway, what I'd like to ask is, have any of you flipped it and the reasons why. Don't get me wrong, It hasn't stopped stopped singing to me and after 6 months of ownership I don't love it any less, but spending more and more time on this forum I'm beginning to appreciate other pieces although I won't mention which ones at this point. Having said that I am only able to own one at the moment due to circumstances hence the post. As per the standard protocols, all comments are welcome although I am particularly interested in the views of members that have/had the 114060 as their only watch and have flipped it.... Chime in! My gut says don't let it go, and my wallet does too... Dealers here in the UK have only offered £3500 and lower which is a £1500 hit considering I paid £5000 for it in February this year. I know what you're going to say, keep it and save up for the next right? Goodnight, stay safe and be lucky! X |

Guess it goes for all of us reading forum like this, we get tempted to try new stuff..
I'll have a 114060 as my only Rolex and expensive watch. Yes i'm drawn to other watches. I know I will regrett if I let my 114060 go. So i patently save up for my next purchase. I'm just the average income guy, so it takes some time.... As you know the wait is half the fun... If you bought your brand new from AD, like me, hang on to it, you will regrett it if you part with it. At least this is my thougths |

Funnily enough I bought my 114060 in Feb of this year. It's actually my fourth Sub after two 14060M's and a 16610. In my experience when you get rid of a Sub you just end up with another one so my advice is to keep it

I've had two of them. They are great, but both times I got rid of it for a watch with a date. As much as I love the clean dial, I need a date. Great watch though if you can live without a date function.

I would say you have to keep it mate! I bought mine last year and only flipped it to acquire a Patek 5167 at a great price....picking up another 114060 for Christmas!!
Don't flip it as you'll miss it every day!

If you flip it, you'll probably pick another one up down the line so keep it. I love my 114060.

It's a fantastic watch. I've flipped it twice. My only reason is the missing date. I would get one in a larger collection. It's a beauty.

I love this forum, but be very aware....it has cost me a fortune! (happily, I might add!)

I've been wearing the 114060 as my only watch for almost two years. My advice for you is this. Keep it for at least one year, like I did. Then you'll have made a good commitment to an awesome watch. I've bought and flipped watches so many times that I decided to slow things down and be happy with one great watch.
Here is my thread about the one watch, one year challenge |

I flipped twice a 14060m and now i know that's because of the bracelet.
I owned a 114060 since february and i like it a lot. But there are days it is the perfect watch and days it is a bit boring. I ´d like a date but it would be on the LV only. And i would probably regret the classic black thing, despite all the beautiness of the LV. Currently thinking of adding a little fun with a blue 116200 or a blue Milgauss :) Keep it. It tells time and is like a perfection of a watch theme. |

I haven't got one yet, but I can tell you why I will flip it.
When I save enough cash plus the 114060 as trade, I'll get a Daytona. |

Yeah, that can be a problem with forums like this. So many killer references it gets overwhelming.
I have that reference. It's the classic diver. Off and on I've wondered why it's still in the mix with the date version so popular, but consider how neat it is to just pick up a watch set it go. |

I would only sell a black subc for a Hulk, TT or gold.

I ended up flipping my 16600 and grabbed the 114060. Both are great watches and I like the 114060 better as the one and only. However, I do wish I would have saved and kept the sea dweller as it was an amazing piece. If you can live without the date it's pretty hard to argue with the SubC. Save for the next as I am learning the hard way browsing 16600's in the sales forum which we all know what it will eventually lead to.

My first Rolex was the 114060, then I felt that I needed the date. So, I traded for the date version. After several months, I grew tired of the black and wanting something more interesting. That's when I bought the 116613LB. After getting that, I regret not having an all stainless watch that I could wear as a b"beater" and something that was versatile. So, while keeping the sunburst, I bought the new polar Exp2 to fill that void. I STILL regret selling both of those black subs, but I remember the 114060 being the most iterating and beautiful of the two. I will get another.

I've had mine since early this year and the damn thing monopolizes my wrist time. it's almost at the point where I'm thinking of selling most of my watches and paring down to maybe 3.

The 114060 is a continuation of one of the most classic watch designs in the world that dates back to the earliest Subs.
I prefer my 14060M, but if I had a 114060, I wouldn't part with it for the world. Besides, it looks ten times better than the 116610 and will be as classic as it is today 100 years from now.

Though this is not my only piece, if it was my first and only, I guess I would have flip it for the Dssd.
BUT...depending on the condition when I first purchased it...if I got it new at top dollar, I might just keep it rather than taking a big hit on resell and save up for another piece. But if I got it pre owned at a resonable price...you know the drill... Fortunately for me, I got the Dssd first and at top dollar thus its likely not going anywhere... And I saved up enough to get myself...the iconic diver, pre owned at a resonable price. Like some who mentioned, if date is not an issue, the 114060 is a classic and evergreen piece... Simplicity at its Best. |

For such a popular fast moving piece, it would irk me to drop £1500 so soon.
My recommendation would be to hold out until you can trade it against something else. It won't drop any further in value and if anything, you should be able to work a better deal. Other consideration is what happens if you miss it and buy another..... you turn a £5000 piece into something that cost you closer to £6500. Just my 2p. |

Thanks for all your input gents... Think I was just having a moment of madness. For now I can live without having the date function but I'd definitely like to have that feature at some point in the future. The sensible thing to do would be to keep it and add another when circumstances permit so I think I'll do just that.

It seems like you're going to do the right thing, which is hang on to it.
It's a staple in any collection in my opinion. Start a savings fund for whatever you might want next to get your mind off of selling and continue enjoying your Sub! |

Great watch, love mine, but developed an itch for a vintage and would probably trade / flip for the right opportunity.

I have been a collector for more than 20 years and have had almost all of the models of Rolexes. I currently have five and two are YG. Of all the watches I have owned and sold and held onto the only one that I would part with last would be the 114060. To me it is as close to perfect as a watch comes. Size, bracelet, function and appearance. If I had not been on a long collecting journey I may feel different and want something else but many flip the sub but most will at some point come back.
