Changing Up Collection Questions (Pics)
Hello all I think I need some help and suggestions :)
I have attached a picture of some of my current collection for discussion purposes. Preface..........Many of these watches were purchased brand new (warranty in my name) and have remained in the box in a safe their entire life) Here are some of my thoughts and I lack guidance right now. 1. I love Daytonas, I want to keep both but why am I doing that? I will be acquiring a Platona very soon so I am not sure I need the 18k diamond dial one. The chocolate stays What would you guys do....just hang on to the yellow gold one or kiss her goodbye? 2. I have two GMT C in 18k gold, both with the same black dial......I have only worn one of them and sparingly.....I guess one should go? 4. BNIB V serial Milgauss GV, never put on my wrist....why am I keeping this around? Would anyone else hang on to a watch like that if you will never wear it? 5. Panerai 312 L series bought brand new and still sits brand new. I will never wear it.....what would you do? 6. The datejusts stay I guess, ones an old model that has meaning behind it, and I just like the other one but it too is BNIB with stickers on 6. The LV, SD 4000 and Explorer 2 stay but heres the big question..... What would you get rid of, why and what would you replace it with..... I am open to any model except for: date just 2 36mm president How would you guys move things around and what would you get and why? p.s. My explorer 2 is my favourite out of every one of these |

I would sell the daytona to upgrade to Platona, and trade one of the GMT“s for a Green Dial GMT or Smurf My

Keep the LV, SD 4000, Explorer 2, Chocolate Daytona, one of the YG GMTs and the Datejust that has meaning and sell everything else and you'll still have one hell of a collection.
And with all that extra cash you could buy a WG 116619Sub! |

Interesting...WG sub supporters out in full force. Platona doesn't depend on this as that transaction will complete soon....I just wouldn't mind getting some pieces I would be more likely to wear....not sure if I would take the WG sub over the PEP C though ;)

Interesting collection, how did you end up with two YG GMT IIs?

Upgrade to Platona, keep the DJ that has significance to you, the Explorer 2 since you really like it, and 1 GMT, if the rest are still NIB why keep them? Better have a few that you Love than a lot that you like.

I have to say my condolences for the pickle you are in
Here's what I would do if faced with the same dilemma and constraints: 1. Sell the YG and RG models - just don't like Rolex's RG colour. Looks overly feminine IMHO. Plus you have an incoming Platona 2. Sell both of these. Not a fan of the GMT function - you have your favourite ExpII for this 4. Sell the Milgauss 5. Never liked Panerai, so this would go immediately 6. Sell the BNIB DJ 7. I would sell the LV - sorry, not a fan of this watch Do Next: Acquire the Platona and YG Submariner w/ Black dial This is an extreme portfolio simplification From 10 pieces to 5 pieces |

I dont know what would you sell but you got it in the first place for a reason. If you want to add i can suggest you the platona which you are going to get, the wg sub or yg sub blue dial and DD2 with "Mike Kilyung" dial. Its awesome piece.

Interesting thoughts and suggestions,thanks guys.
Two GMTs came about due to one for myself and one I bought for my dad. He said too flashy no thanks....I never did anything with the extra one just kept it. I really think it comes down to me moving forward by selling one GMT, the Panerai and maybe that's it? I don't know what else to do, I'm afraid I will miss the Daytona so much if I sell the yellow gold one, but then again with the Platona coming soon and the chocolate I should be satisfied in that department. The other dilemma that I have is that I just don't know what I would replace some of these with but i welcome more suggestions. |

If I was getting the Platona I would sell off the other 2 gold models Daytona's and buy a Patek, probably a Nautilus.
If I had a Platona I would never wear another Daytona ever again. I would sell one of the gold GMT's and buy a WG Sub. I would do whatever I had to do so my collection looked like this: Platinum Daytona Patek Nautilus WG Submariner YG GMT Exp II White Dial LVc Submariner SD 4000 That would do me very nicely! |

I would ditch the gold Daytona if you have a Platinum one coming in.
No point in having 2 116718s and I would never keep any watch that I didn't intend on wearing. |

I would do this and buy either WG or YG Blue Subc. I would also consider selling the Choco Daytona for a Choco DDII just for the President bracelet alone.

Agree here. Sell those other watches to others to enjoy. No sense in keeping those, and all that money, just sitting in a safe.

Based on what you already have and trying to guess what you are ultimately trying to achieve, I would only replace one piece in your collection; one of the YG GMT2's for an RG DayDate2 chocolate dial or Ivory dial.

That's like $200k in watches. My watch questioner abilities can only go up to 40k...
How do you like the chocolate dial? That is one of my grail Beautiful pics...

With the Platona incoming--a watch among the top of current Rolex production--liquidate your redundancies (2nd 116718 and one of the Daytonas) and the faddish watches you're holding BNIB (Panerai, Milgauss GV) and get either a significant vintage Rolex or a new or old Patek with interesting complication.

May I ask why you have never worn so many of them?

First off...one of those GMT's should be sent directly to me so I can wear it
Keep the one DJ b/c it has meaning, keep the SS sports models b/c you said you would. Sell off all of the others you don't wear, why would you tie up all that $$$ to sit there, unless you were handing them down or eventually going to wear them. I am giving you these suggestions b/c you seem to be in the position to do so. 1. Get rid of all the ones you don't wear at all. 2. Get that Platona and think about the YG one before selling that off in case you will miss it. 3. Get the new WG GMT with the $$ from all the others you sold 4. The GMT's, at least trade one for the Green dial GMT so they are slightly different, or get DD II or keep the money. Definitely no need to 2 of the same YG watch. How many do you actually wear? Just keep the collection down to 4-5 and wear them |

I saw a WG blue Sub Date for the first time in the wild, and I was awestruck. The guy wearing it didn't notice me staring at it, but every time we broke eye contact, I glanced down at it. It was awesome. If you're going to be clearing room for something new, I would say one of those should be added.

I don't know why to be honest, I have never figured that out myself. For the first time recently I traded in one of my bnib pieces. It was a diamond dial v series 116613 blue and it felt good and that's what started this all.

Sell everything that you don't wear and won't wear.
Sell: Pam 312 - an odd ball in your collection Milguass is my least favorite Rolex model GMT II both of them - you are barely wearing one. Daytona - sell one. Get New GMT in WG - this is get some wrist time along with your new Daytona. |
