Do you feel safe wearing your Rolex?

I'm widely regarded within my company as a total fanboi. I own pretty much every Apple product of some incarnation or another.

One of my colleagues asked me yesterday when I was going to buy Apple watch. Short answer: I'm not. I basically said that I wouldn't leave a Rolex on my bedside table in favour of an Apple watch, not a chance. After expressing surprise at me wearing "such an expensive watch" (didn't tell him I have two ), he said I'm asking for my arm to be cut off by wearing a Rolex back in the UK. While I think that's by and large nonsense, I do think that if I strayed into some of the less salubrious areas of major cities after dark while rocking a Rolex, I would almost certainly be asking for trouble.

Do you ever feel unsafe wearing yours? I most certainly don't in Singapore but I'm now questioning how I'm going to feel when I go back home for a few weeks next month.

There are probably a million Rolexes made per year.....lets say that there are maybe 10 million people on this planet that own rolexes? Ummm how often do we hear of peoples arms being chopped off for one?

I apply that logic most of the time, so you've helped me answer my own question. I never park one of my motorcycles where I can't see them and I'm extremely careful where I leave my car.

I feel safe wearing mine all the time. People have told me to be careful because I'm going to get my arm "chopped" off but that's never the case (thank God)

I do not believe anyone has lost an arm due to wearing a Rolex. Btw, the word "salubrious" appears in ten other threads here on TRF.....that is ten more than I was expecting!

In Hong Kong you could do that with a matching white Rolex baseball cap on. Never a problem here.

Muzz I've seen the gold and diamonds your Rolex rocks. Situational awareness and common sense are the beginning. When the situation goes orange you need an action plan.

I agree situation awareness is key. Common sense will keep you out of high risk situations. But, they are not the same as having a self protection plan and tools.

Never felt unsafe in Australia. One or two times travelling, I have felt a bit paranoid about a good pick pocket getting my watch off when using the packed underground train system known to be pick pocket hot spots.

You already answered this question a few months back and If I recall correctly, Nobody has been robbed at point in HK since the Japanese invaded in 1941

Now I don't feel safe thinking about Bears carrying guns, although I thought grizzlies were more common in Canada, canucks are not so liberal when it comes to concealed weapons, although the implication is that a bear is happy to travel with a visible rifle, so either way that is one dangerous bear the thought he could shoot me and eat me scares me in almost equal measure.

I feel totally safe walking around the streets of Bangkok while wearing my watches, however, as Tom has said situational awareness is key. There are times here on dark streets where I will put my hand in my pocket just so I'm not flashing my watch around, but that's about as far as I ever go.
Actually, I honestly feel that Bangkok is the safest city I have ever been in. Some people would try to scam the life out you, but violent crime is very low.

Amen, brother. Killing a man over a watch is ridiculous, regardless of whether you're the one stealing it or the one protecting it. Either way, the very idea of it is abhorrent.

No, I never feel unsafe. Like Tom said, situational awareness is key. However, if I ever do get my arm chopped off for my watch, I'll come back and post it here, complete with wrist[less] shots.

Thanks Ron I should add, I have security (6 pers) at work and security (8 pers) uniformed and plain clothes at my residence. Additionally I spend the majority of my time (outside of work and family) at galleries which display works of art far more valuable than any watch known. I do not frequent any "drinking establishments" and I use valet parking in Canada and have a trained driver abroad.

Wow, sounds like I am a Princess but I am not, it is for insurance purposes.

I actually hear of people get ripped off of their iPhones much more often than their watches. As long as you are not wearing an iced out yellow gold Rolex in a bad part of town you should be fine, just use common sense.
