I think a newer gen car like the quatroporte or ghibli might be more reliable.
Not sure how well the GTC can hold it together after 10-15 years.

If you can stretch to the Gransport that came out in 2005/6 you will have a nicer car. Overall Maserati gets a bad wrap they are reliable if maintained well

I drive a 2014 Ghibili and I can say the reliability has been somewhat dissapointing with the rattling sounds, issues with sat radio, engine sputtering at times then the check engine light comes on. Luckily the dealership has been very helpful but still...

The reason why you buy/own Italian cars is due to the exclusivity, driving experience, hearing that exhaust note when when you hammer the pedal and not necessarily on reliability.

Good luck in your search!

I'm really in love w the ghibli... It's good to hear the dealer is handling the issues.

OK reliability . . . . got AAA Premier

Same as the other Spaghetti rockets

But never owned one and we need to start somewhere . . . .

Or maybe get a QP . .

I don't know a lot about Maserati other than they're beautiful and sound amazing!

If it is minty and well cared for, I say go for it, Marc!

I would stick with a newer maserati.

I had a 2004 quattroporte (purchased used with low miles) and it was HORRIBLE when it came to reliablity. I got rid of it with less than 25k miles because of the headaches it caused. The auto-manual trasmission needed a new clutch at 12k and was horrible in shift quality in day to day driving. It also had significant electrical problems with the gps/sound system and the alternator. Had to get it towed to the dealership multiple times. I also hated that the dealership would have Enterprise "pick me up" from the dealership to get my loaner everytime it was in the shop for work.

I've heard the new quattroportes, Gran Tourismos and Ghiblis are more reliable but the bad experience with mine left me not trusting the brand.

Nice to admire, but perhaps not a great ownership proposition (unless briefly, just for the experience)

A little off topic - but...

I was watching a review on a collector who just picked up a new (classic) 80s Lamborghini Countach, and it's recommended that you change the fan belts once a year, and it takes 36-hours do to that job!!!

He said you can push it to every two-years to reduce the ownership costs.

Can you imagine that bill!?

Gonna give the guy a call . . .

Need to negotiate the price a little bit

Targa might stay but I am one of those that switch pretty often . . . .

Got a few more on my list like Ferrari and Aston Martin . . .

Looking for a 308 GTB QV or the earlier carb one momentarily but a friend send me the info on this Maserati . . .

We'll see . . . not in a rush . . . many beautiful cars out there . . . .

HAGOne my friend

I dont think any of Italian sports cars are made to be reliable. I know Ferrari was losing money for years and makes a HUGE portion of its money through maintenance costs. Ive never heard any good things about the cc but god I love the car

Awesome - such a thrill looking for a new ride like this!!!

I'm sure a pre-purchase inspection may help with the negotiation as well.

Can't wait to hear more about your journey. The 308 - yum!!!

That's a real shame to hear about Maserati reliability issues. Was kinda keen on the Ghibili. But still quite surprised in this day and age of auto manufacturing that a supposedly "up market" brand still can't get its quality right when even Hyundai has moved up significantly over the years in their quality standards.

I've been a car nut all my life and would like to own something a bit exotic but have always been frightened off by the maintenance costs.
My Father-in-law had a Ferrari but did all the maintenance himself.
Even BMWs are nothing like as reliable as an Hyundai.(I have several friends with them)
I have resigned myself to the fact that if you buy something expensive, the maintenance will be expensive as well.

One of my sadest car experiences was a Maserati.

I used to go down to Brussels 3-4 times a month to buy cars. I had a reliable guy/mechanic as a supplier.

I bought a 67 Mistral Spider that just needed minor work which my guy would take care of before I came down to pick it up.

Long story short, the day before delivery he welded some exhaust leakage and the car exploded. I came down the following day to pick up the car and there was basically nothing left of the car, garage and mechanic.

Wow, that's crazy. You must be thanking your lucky stars you weren't there at the time. Sorry to hear that the mechanic perished, awful.
