Glashutte and muhle glashutte nautische?

Can anyone tell me if these are the same company, sister companies or completely different manufacturers of watches. I am looking for a new sporty type watch and seeing as it is so hard to find a ND sub i have been looking around. I have my eye on a few but what do you think of this one- i like it but i think it might be a bit to much after a while.

Your help as always is appreciated

Christopher:

They are separate companies. The Glashutte Original watches cost a lot more than the Muhle Glashutte watches do. They both make fine watches. I love the GO brand. They are a way on top Swiss Manufacturer that has been around for a long time. That is a nice looking watch you're thinking about. It is a little loud but looks like it is well made. Maybe black would look better?

Some small clarifications here:

Glashuette Original (GO) are owned by the SWATCH group but are not a Swiss company, rather it is German, and is situated in the town of the same name in the former East Germany or FDR.

Muehle-Glashuette (MG) was founded in the same town and as far as I know, remains independent, and previously specialised in nautical instruments. They make the SAR watch, which stands for Search And Rescue and is in use by German Special Forces. Most of their movements are ETA based with some other ebauches used. Tough watches, but I'm quoting this, but the SAR, which I've handled, is indeed tough.

GO on the other had, position themselves in the Rolex and above range. They have some beautifully finished pieces and some interesting (read challenging) sports model designs. Jocke is a big fan, just search the brand here and you should find some of Jocke's pics.

WHOOPS. See what happens when I try to appear intelligent .

Now I am embarrassed. All I had to do was get my watch bible downstairs and look it up as I knew they were separate companies. Forgot they were A GERMAN COMPANY though. I'll crawl away now with my tail between my legs.

WOW. I also read mine in the outhouse. It's the only place my wife will let me.

Toph, I've seen those in blue and orange before, but never in black. Blue was quite cool.

I'd highly recommend the GO DVD.

You can order one through their website http://www.glashuette-original.com/

It's a great DVD that shows how their manufacturing is done. All in-house movements, very high quality. Many of their watches can be had on the pre-owned market for ridiculously low prices. In fact, you could find a Sport Evolution Chronograph or Chronometer on the GO rubber strap in the same price range as a ND Sub. Their bracelet is one of the best available, but it is definitely heavy. GO watches come with a loupe, so that should tell you something about the finish and quality of the movement, which is seen through an exhibition back on nearly all of their watches.

Here is a Sport Evo Chronometer, for example (I believe this is Jocke's photo):

Yes, I know what you mean - It looks great in the photo, but I can imagine it being a bit testing on the eyes after a while. Don't think I could personally bring myself to spend that kind of cash on it, although I do like it.

Glashütte Orginal, A Lange & Söhne and Nomos still produce watches in Glashütte.
Muehle Glashütte is kicked out of Glashütte for the moment because if you should
print Glashütte at the dial you must produce at least 50% of the components.

But the rumor says Muehle Glashütte is on the way back because the will soon
made most of their watches in house.

All those companys made great watches.

Here you can see my trip down there last summer.

Thanks Jocke for such a wonderful picture excursion. I love Germany. The time I was there was to get my spine operated on so I did not get the world class tour. It is a beautiful country. Your pictures are fabulous. I love the watches that come out of there. GO and A. Lange & Sohne are my favorite companies.

Thanks for sharing the tour of the company. That was great.
