looking for a birth year piece - 1966
Is there a source for finding what watch styles where sold by year? I'm interested in trying to find a birthyear 1966 piece but it really depends on what it looks like.
Also where to find a watch that is nearly 50 years old?

1966 tudor...
I liked this 1966 Tudor 7928 so much that I changed my TRF username to match this model.
Plenty of great Tudor Submariners out there, this would make a great model for you.. Al

I've looked at their stuff. They buy in Japan. Mostly good but one of their Tudors I found listed elsewhere missing several bits (bezel, etc...) and they put those on the piece once they got it but didn't disclose in their ad.

You'd be surprised how much the 1966 resemble the current line-up... strong DNA. Enjoy--50 years is not old for these watches if well maintained, very easy to find.

You could do a search right here in the FS section. Also, just google 1966 Rolex and most likely it will take you to several sites like chrono 24 etc.
Good luck ! |

Almost impossible to pin point to the exact year in the Rolex line up look for a case serial between 128972 -1557XXX, a nice 5513 or 5512 from this time frame of Rolex subs. On the inside case back of the vintage models the first Roman digits the part quarter of the month, second two Arabic numbers the year of manufacture.

Thanks folks, I appreciate it. The Tudor, Rolex Subs , Omega speedy and a Breitling Nav would be great options for my BY piece. If I keep the list large I should be able to find a suitable piece. Any of these four pieces would be great for my collection. If I didn't already have a Daytona I would chase it too. The perfect addition would be the speedy.

I went looking.. Oh my, these are nearly as much as a New piece. I was expecting 4-5k not 7-10k. I might have to rethink this..I know I want a Speedy for my collection. Think I'm going to try for that.

a nice speedy caliber 321 is a great watch ! but if you are bitten by the Rolex virus you'll end up with a higher cost because you will buy one in the future... :-)

To be honest, a fully correct gilt gmt, explorer or sub will be more like 12k to 20k usd, but they are very special. The Daytona may be 35k up to well into 6 figures depending on dial. Somewhat more than a new piece.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
