First Rolex Purchase (Please help!)
Hi everyone,
So I recently got engaged (thank you) and feel that I should also get something nice in addition to what my fiance has on her finger! I have always loved Rolex since I'm 10 years old and now is the time I feel ready to purchase one. I am not rich but I do have SOME discretionary money (up to $5,000 total) to purchase a Rolex. I have been looking at the Datejust II black index and went to check it out today in the diamond district NYC to a guy who is a wholesaler (friend of friend). He showed me what he had in stock new, used etc. He can get me a new datejust II for $5,850 (no box but with papers) and a used one for $5,000. He also showed me the explorer II (old model) which he had with no boxes but paperwork (no card but was comfortable going with me to Rolex official store a few blocks away) for $3,700. I actually did like it. He then showed me a seadweller (black dial old model) for $5,000 and showed me the new submariner (new model) for $6,100. I must say I do like how the new clasp on the datejust II and sub feel comparatively to the old one...just feel a little sturdier, smoother, stronger and less "flimsy." What are your guys thoughts on a first rolex? Should I get a used (newer) model? Should I go with an older model for cheaper? I'm honestly so mixed but could really use the input from a bunch of experts such as yourselves! Thanks, |
