Daytona holding Value
Hi Guys,
I have a feeling I am going to get blasted over this questions but I will ask anyway. I am pretty new to rolexes and I notice that the daytona seems to hold its value better than any other rolex does over time. Now I know people will argue that DD's and other gold watches also hold their value which I get becasuse of the prescious metal. It seems that even the SS daytona's hold great value over time compared to other SS watches. Can anyone explain to me why that is. Just trying to expand my knowledge on this and I know this is the place for answers LOL. Thanks, Dom |

That's not so much the case anymore with the modern references....now the vintage Daytonas on the other hand are doing well.

generally speaking, precious metal and two-tone watches suffer from the highest depreciation, SS men's models the lowest

If you are talking depreciation, the current Daytonas have decent resale value but some other current references may do better. If you are talking appreciation, the vintage, Valjoux Daytonas have been on a tear recently.

Daytonas are one of the more "difficult" stainless watches to get and its always been that way.
There is a big demand for them and with somewhat limited supply it makes them retain their value on the secondary market compared to some of the other watch models that are more readily available. |

Precious metals usually depreciate more than SS Rolex.
Daytona and subs are especially popular on the used market! |

I would say this is changing as of recent. Most people who are buying a Daytona in the US are paying full retail of $12K on them. From what I can see LNIB models are trending in the mid to low 10's so it is a pretty big hit from the original retail price.

Are SS Daytonas still hard to get? They used to be but have not kept up with the market.

They require a little more effort than most SS models, but I wouldn't qualify it as difficult...now coming up with the funds might make it hard to get. |

"Maintain value" is relative. All Rolexes drop from their original retail numbers unless as one other has mentioned it's one of the classics. If you're buying at the right numbers then you'll most often lose just a little bit, "maintain" or even gain value over time.
Precious metals models are actually more risky when you think about it. And traditionally all watches in steel have maintained value better than any precious metals watch, unless you're talking about a Patek. I think a Daytona is a safe bet. |

the SS Daytona list price was $6075.00 11 years ago. They were a little harder to get @ that price back then. The rsrp has increased to match the secondary market price today.

I think the ss daytona holds value as well as any piece in the current lineup though it is close these days between the blnr gmt and the daytona.
