Rotring 600 ball pen.

I bought myself " Rotring 600 ball pen" 25 years ago. Being an engineer I liked the quality design and workmanship of the " Rotring ". I paid about £15 for it in 1989, now I read they're worth 10 times that amount. Can this be true ?

It would appear to be so on eBay. The company I believe which produced this pen was sold. And then two or three cheaper versions came out. I own a version 3 which I paid roughly $80. Compared to the original there are lots of differences which are attributed to changes to production to lower costs.

It was worth the £15 I paid when I bought it. They are very nice to use I must admit. I should have bought the matching fountain pen. They're worth £250 apparently !

I too owned that particular pen plus I had a mechanical pencil made by Rotring which was pretty close in design to the pen and I loaned them to my son when he lived in a Dorm at College and someone "nicked" them from his Dorm room.....oh well, easy come, easy go!!!

I do have my Dad's mechanical pencils, and they are pretty cool holding the 2mm leads, from his College years as he received two degrees. His Undergrad degree from Dartmouth in Structural Engineering and then to M.I.T. for his Graduate Degree in Aeronautical Engineering. During WWII he was stationed at Wright Army Base(in the beginning being part of the Army which later split to become the USA Air Force)and was not allowed to transfer and go Overseas to take part in military maneuvers. All he could ever tell me was he was involved in "Sensitive Projects" during the War and could not talk about what he did.......

Take care.....Leo
