Headed to Alan Furman today

Well, I'm really headed to Golf Galaxy to look at some Pings, but since AF is a block or two away I figure I will stop in there and check for clvg.

I love my Pings. I had them custom measured by my club Pro. They are so sweet and they only way to go. I am 6' 5", so I finally got a set that is right for my height. The right clubs changed my game.

Alan Furman was a non-event. They don't even really have a showroom. It's more like an office and the sales guys will bring out what you want to see.

At GG, I swung a number of drivers including my current Titleist 975J and confirmed that the Ping G10 9* with the Graffaloy Prolaunch Red is the one I hit best.

Now I have to figure out my irons. I'm going to look at the I5, G5 and G10. I need a realtively stiff shaft to keep the ball from balooning.

Kind of surprising about Alan Furman. I had the impression it was a large store.

I've always had the same impression based on their website and was surprised to hear this. However, dealing with them online and via telephone is a joy. I've bought from him before and was on the phone with him as late as today

I've been there...very wierd place. You enter the reception area (nothing special...kind of like a doctors office). I had an appointment, so I checked in and sat down. A salesman came out and brought me into a small office. Then he left the office to get the watch. We looked at it for a few minutes and that was about it.
It was as fun as the 4 hr drive home

Yep, so was I the next time I was in DC. Glad I found this.

But otherwise, they are great to deal with. I emailed back and forth with them on a new Sub before deciding to get the GMT II at the local AD.

If you are not settled on a driver yet, check out the Taylormade R7 Superquad. I bought one last year, and i LOVE it. Great driver

Tinknok from Michigan; was that near our Great lake?

Wow. I have never seen such huge twins in my entire life. That has to be difficult getting in to bed at night. Imagine dragging those in to the shower daily.

I hit one (TP version) head-to-head with the Ping yesterday. It went a hair longer, but dispersion and spin were both higher than the Ping. Most of that has to do with the shaft.

Hi Ed
Out of those irons only the i5 has a chance of keeping the ball down, the G5 and G10 are more sole weighted to get the ball up faster.
The i 10 is a good option also.I would also recommend that you look for a higher flex point in the shaft rather than the stiffness because a low kick point has the effect of flicking the ball up, particularly in the long irons.
I still like the ZZ 65 shaft for that reason.(greater penetration in the long irons)
Regards Mike.

I found it a pleasure to deal with Mr. Alan Furman. I closed the transaction with Alan at about 4PM. My brand new DSSD arrived at about 10AM the next morning.

A couple of you mentioned his store is strange. Can you guys elaborate? I had the impression that it would be a big, beautiful store.

I have one word for you on the irons: "Mizuno"
Can't go wrong with a set of forged Mizzies. They are like butter.

Sounds just like Watchuwant in Florida. Receptionist, a few guys there to get you watches to look at. An on site watchmaker. And OJ, the owner, who's there occasionally. But, if the watch and price is right, and you can inspect it first, I don't see a problem.
