Another newbie question, this on watch size

Ok I have come to love this forum as I explore my first Rolex. I had just settled on buying (once I found the right one) a 1016 Explorer. Love everything about it plus the size is just right for my wrist. (Female with a smallish wrist) along the way I saw the GMT Master from the 1960s and was overwhelmed. The thing is, I can't find one to try on in my locale and I'm wondering if it will be too big. I now wear a cheap stainless watch that does measure 40 mm in diameter if I measure be back of the watch. The lugs add to that of course. Does anyone have the GMT master and could they do some measurements for me - or comment on the Heft and size? My wrist is 6.5 inches if that helps
Thanks
(A soon to be rolex owner I hope!)

My wife (she's small in size and stature as well) wears my 1680 sub and I think it looks great on her, she loves the weight of it.

Go for the GMT! You will not notice the difference once you have it on for five minutes.

It will be fine, I have small wrists myself and 40mm is the max size I wear that I feel comfortable with.

This is my -78 1675 on my 16.5cm(6.5in) wrist:
