GMT Master (16710) and Sub cases the same...
I have been told that both cases have the same measures. The differences are in the crystal and caseback, and of course the crowns. But would it be possible then, theoretically, to put together a GMT Master Sub? This is, a Sub with the GMT movement, hands and dial?
Just curious.... Regards |

No it is not the same. The cases are different, they are different by just about a couple millimeters. The Submariner case is actually a little bit thicker than the GMT case and the Sea Dweller case is a little thicker than the Submariner case.

Here's a Sub and a GMT (traditional)
Here's a profile of a Sub (top) and a GMT (16710). The Sub case appears similar, but the caseback and bezel are definitely different. -Sheldon

That would be a interesting project....But I would be curious why someone would go through the exercise..
The 3135 movement and the 3185 movements are similar, so I suppose you could put a GMT movement into a Sub case with very little modification. But to make it function as a GMT, you would need the GMT bezel, negating the Sub bezel function. You would simply end up with a GMT with a Triplock crown. It would probably be cheaper (since you need to start with a Sub and a GMT), and certainly easier, to just buy the new GMT with the triplock.
