Another first world problem

People with a metal credit card... how do you dispose of them when they are expired or replaced? The damn thing will barely bend let alone break

I googled it and apparently, Chase can send you an envelope for you to send it back for destruction but my bank doesn't offer that.

I actually thought about that since they are either expired or a new number was issued but it still doesn't sound right to me

Miami is ranked #1 in the US for identity theft. To just throw it in the trash isn't a good idea.

When I shred my other credit cards, I split the pieces into a couple different garbage bags.

I could think of some funs ways to destroy one, but a pair of snips ought to work. If that's not enough, put one end in a vice grip and the other in channel locks and bend it.

Throw it in the ocean, or feed it to an Alligator.

Burn it or at least use a lighter to burn out the chip or magnet strip. that should remove any data or info on the card

A few holes drilled thru the mag strip should do the trick. Then get creative with a hammer and hack saw. You can pretend it's your boss.

I have the Marriott Rewards metal card issued by chase and have been able to send them back in the envelope. But I did drill a 1/4" hole in the chip of one before I sent it back. That does the trick.

Who else distributes the metal cards??

Please excuse my ignorance.
So they get a name from an expired credit card? What can anyone do with that?
In that case cut it up and put the pieces in different trash bins.

Not all are expired. Two were replaced because of a bad magnetic strip.

While they cant charge anything, they would have my name, my wifes name, our address and what appears to be a valid credit card. Thats the base for identity theft.

If you look at the topic of the thread, it is to figure out how to destroy it. Its metal so how do you propose cutting it up?

If we learned anything from 'Terminator 2', it's that the best way to dispose of something like that is a vat of molten metal.

Don't be a weinie, it takes all of 3 minutes to cut it up with a cutoff wheel. If its that bad then go to the plumbing section of the hardware store and pick up some sulfuric acid. Pour it over the card in a glass bowl and come back a few hours later.

I'm always in two minds about how much trouble I need to go to to safely dispose of these things. The key phrase here is "how much trouble" as I guess most of us don't want to go and fire up the angle grinder or saw to do it. Even the plastic cards are hard to cut without a pair of Metal Snips.
I usually just cut them in four with the Metal Snips and put the pieces in two different garbage bags. Always seems a bit excessive to me...

Send it to Jocke, I'm sure he would take a plasma cutter to it or at the very least a welding torch!

I shred in the document shredder. Throw away the pieces in two in two separate places. Same with all important documents and what not.

RE: credit cards themselves are now pretty antiquated, sending world tech now. Phone banking, etc.

Will see how Apple pay does.
