NYC RSC won't change my dial!

Greetings Forum,

Dropped off my 18038 Day-Date for a long overdue service/refinish at the NYC Service Center today.

I inquired with the service consultant about replacing the current Black, Stick Marker dial with a White, Roman-Numeral dial. She departed to the service area and emerged a few mins later saying the only White dial they could offer me was another Stick-Marker dial. Something about they'll only offer whatever was an original dial option for that model was said. Does this sound/seem correct?

For $600 plus another $150 for new hands (and they keep the orig dial), you'd think I could get what I want?

My repair estimate is due tmrw. I'd appreciate any/all forum feedback as to how best to proceed.

Thanks!
Tom

Yep sounds correct, they'll only let the watch leave their hands looking original for the model/year

Yes, it's normal for an RSC to only offer to replace what was original to the watch, like for like.

Did you ask what other options were available for the model/year?

The only dials she offered were Champagne, Blue, White, Black and perhaps one additional color, but all were in the Stick-style configuration. Negative response on the Roman numeral request.

My local AD told me the same thing when I inquired about the possibly of a dial change in the future. Taste change so I though I'd ask incase I wanted something different in the future. I was told that Rolex only allows the change options to be the stick dial for legibility reasons, even though my watch was sold with a variety of dial choices from roman, diamond, mop etc. So I'm wondering if this is true or not. Has rolex become more strict on their dial changes? Do they only allow a stick marker dial for dial changes now?

Where do ADs come up with these?

I was at Dallas RSC recently and inquired about this. They had the same answer. Also, the lady told me they will not change dials on professional models (ie: black to white dial daytona). Only the dress watches.

You should come on a trip and enjoy Dubai for a few days. ROLEX DUBAI will let you swap to any dial you want and guess what? you GET TO KEEP your original dial. Dial Swapping at ROLEX DUABI takes 5 business days given the item is in stock. Been there, done it before.

Cheers,
