This Ain't Boston
But, for Albuquerque, we've got a lot of snow.
For reasons I can't explain off the top of my head, the Sandias keep a lot of weather out of Albuquerque, when it snow all around us, especially in the mountains, a few minutes drive to the east. It's somewhat more complicated than the fact the mountain forms a barrier. This is nice to wake up to on a Saturday, but with any luck most will be gone by the afternoon.

A lot of people don't know that we get a lot of snow here in New Mexico. Here in ABQ, we don't get a lot, as I said because the mountain creates what's called the "donut effect" that somehow protects the city from a lot of inclement weather.
I'm at about 5600' at my apartment, but Sandia Peak, which is about ten miles away as the crow flies, is 10,000'. We can have have perfectly dry, sunshiny weather here in town, but the people in the Sandias and the Manzanos a few miles away are completely snowed in. It's kind of weird, but it's this kind of geographical and meterological diversity that makes New Mexico such a great place to live. http://www.skinewmexico.com/

You know, Craig, I used to have some Marine buddies who lived in the Pittsburgh area and I spent a lot of time in the area partying my butt off.
Those were the days!

Well is it a nice change of pace Grady, or a nuisance? I can't tell from your post how you really feel?
I can tell you that tomorrow Boston, since you mentioned it in your title, is about to go over our seasonal snow fall record all time since they began recording weather statistics in the late 19th century. 107 inches of snow was the record and we are going over it. For the first time in my short 50 year life I'm ready to move... Maybe NM?

I referred to Boston, because I know y'all have been hit hard and I didn't want to sound like I was complaining. I've spent enough winters up North to know that I never want to live where snow is a way of life. We get just enough here in ABQ for it to be picturesque and charming, as long as you stay close to home. Driving through the pass in a snowstorm is treacherous to say the least. http://krqe.com/2015/02/28/storm-snow-totals/ Come on down, Marc. It's nice here most of the time, but Spring is a bear, because of the wind. Spring is the only season I wish I were somewhere else.

I'd lived in Carlsbad, NM, for four years after I got out of the service and all I could think of all those years in NO was how I could get back to NM.
