Is this a "Buy"?
Have the opportunity to buy a 2010 116710 GMT from my local jeweler. I've purchased thousands from him over the years including my wife's engagement ring and our wedding bands. We have a good relationship and trust 100%.
The watch is in great condition and is truly more beautiful in the flesh. The watch was just serviced and comes with that paperwork, but no original box or original papers. They are asking $6,500 but have offered it to me at $5,500. Price seems to be pretty good, but not sure if it's a screaming deal. Should I spend a little bit more and get one with correct boxes and papers from a RF trusted seller, or is this too good of a price to pass up? |

That seems like a fair price. I would offer him 5000.

I would think that with a little searching you could find a black ceramic GMT with box and papers close to the same price from a trusted seller on the forum.

Really appreciate the feedback. I'm sitting outside his shop as we speak, and don't want to make an impulsive move. I'll see if he has any wiggle room, but am leaning towards a "pass".
Thank you TRF. |

It's a fair price, I'd buy it. You can't wear a box and papers.

Even with tax it's a good deal if you want a GMT - presuming all is fine inside the case.

Maybe he can't move on price, but try for something else like free first overhaul or if he can throw in some Rolex goodies...? Pocket knife? Maybe a set of earrings for the wife to sweeten things up?

That is why we join discussion boards.
OP: That is a good deal IMO. Don't lose out for a few hundred bucks. My thinking is that you want the box and all if you are going to resell it, because people seem to care about that. If you are going to keep it, and you trust the seller, then go for it. |

I also think at $5.5k it's a decent buy for what it is, assuming the condition is good, e.g it hasn't been over polished or showing significant scars from lack of reasonably careful use.

DavidSW had one listed a month ago for $5675. Box, books, no papers.

I would not do it. Will be hard to re sell without box and papers. I would not buy a watch without box and papers. Every time i trade in a watch they always ask if the set is complete.

I think without box and papers in general is for people who are prepared to re-sell privately, as to a dealer they will really beat you down on price.
