White 1680 dial question
I´ve read pretty much all threads I can find on this topic, but cannot figure it out. Sorry, I know this topic has been up many times, but I turn to you guys for help.
What Mark dial is this I have on my 1680? Watch production year is 1977. I hope the pics will do. Thanks in advance. |

WOW! That was fast
Thank you so much. It was my initial thought, but was´nt sure. Was actually afraid it was a service dial, hence the very white hour markers. |

Is it me, or is the coronet on mine, a little skinnier and pointier than on the one you posted?

White 1680 dial question

Here is a closer pic of a nice example of a MK2.yours is definitely an MK2 just an optical illusion due to the photography that makes you think that the coronet is skinnier and pointier. Here is an example of the MK4 (you see how different are The 6 in 660ft) A lot of people think that there are only 3 variations of the 1680 white, but there are 5 + 1 custom comex dial. But yours again match the MK2 specs (Sorry for my bad pictures, those are zooms of PDF on my iPhone) |

On another note, it is my understanding, that dials with open 6 in 660 are in fact service dials? I remember that being discussed by the likes of Marcello and Beaumont, and as I remember, Marcello won a bottle of wine. |

For the 1680 the opened 6 could be the service dials probably this is why the ROLEX story book list only 3 dials that originally came with the watch. I 'be learned something today because of you :D |

I´ve read pretty much all 1680 dial threads, but following are exceptionally good. And as quoted by Beaumont : "A small teaching point if I may. The Mk I, II, and III 1680 dials have closed 6's. When you see an authentic 1680 dial with open 6's, it is a service/replacement dial." http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=318649 https://www.rolexforums.com/showthre...light=1680+mk4 |
