Nina flies off today...

....and a sad day it is indeed for all of us.

She arrived here on 30th Sept. and leaves today (Sunday 29th) at 4 pm. She goes to Melbourne, stays there for a week at a friend's place and then off to Bombay to live a life of solitude in our lonely apartment in central Bombay.

She is very sad and so are we all. It was a glorious FOUR months here that she had and the grandkids love her so much. I've asked her to come back whenever she wants to...probably next October 2007.

JJ

Is that a Rolex on her wrist too?
One less distraction for JJ now. I think we are now all in trouble...

Why don't you get her to move to NZ? Is it perhaps that she couldn't tolerate hearing about nothing but Rolexes every day? No, that couldn't possibly be the reason she would want to hole up in her lonely apartment in Bombay.

Seriously, I know how difficult it is for you to see her go home. Maybe you could convince her to move to Auckland eventually.

BTW, lovely watch she's wearing.

Well, Ed, do you think all that wasn't planned? Of course, she wants to move to NZ and I am the only living BLOOD relative she has (we have no other brothers or sisters and both our parents have passed away!). NZ immigration are now getting very tough and have virtually closed their doors to immigrants. She doesn't even qualify for a job offer because one has to be 56 or less for that. She can only keep on coming here for holidays. Hopefully we shall see her next October '07 and hopefully immigration laws may change by then.

Yep, John...that's an Oyster Perpetual (no date) with copper dial and Arabics at 3, 6 and 9. She picked it up from Mansor's in October and got it duty free on her way out from the airport today. Meanwhile, she was wearing it during her stay with us. Only a few days ago, I handed it back to Mansor's so he could forward it to the Airport Collection Point and he gave her the tax cash back. Excellent deal she got on it.
Here's a pic...

That sucks JJ, I would keep pressing and writing letters. You never know when it might get on the "right" persons desk.

Sorry to see her go JJ. I know you've all had a good time when she was there. Like Daren said, keep pressing, writing letters, do whatever you have to. I'd write one once a week just to be a pest so they know you weren't going away.

Thanks guys....Nina called last night from Melbourne saying she reached safe and sound and that she got her Rolex from the Collection Point at Auckland customs. The watch was nicely bubble wrapped...all she had to do was start it up, wind it, set it and it was back on her wrist.

She's fine now because she is in good company with a very old friend of her's way back from their Swissair years in Bombay. The loneliness will hit her full in the face when she enters the solitude of her apartment in Bombay!! I do feel very sorry for her.

Hey JJ, ask Nina to give me a ring - we'll get together for coffee and trade notes about you!

I've got a mate whose wife used to work in NZ's immigration office in Singapore - you want I should check with her to see if there's any loopholes you can try?

Thanks James,

I'll e-mail your phone no. to Nina and ask her to give you a call. She's there only for a week and leaves for Bombay on the 6th of Feb.

Cheers - JJ
