Buying a watch from overseas dealer

Hi everyone.

I've been looking at some watches and the current Eruo exchange rate is helping some of the overseas prices. Can you let me know if I'd be responsible for import taxes/duties if a watch is shipped from a European dealer? Thanks!

I appreciate that. I'll study the links more this weekend but sounds like VAT is not charged if goods are sold to a customer outside the EU. Still wondering if the U.S. will charge anything to clear the package?

Yes, there most likely will be import duties, and if it's a Rolex you risk having it confiscated to due trademark protection law.

Of course, the US is not a tax free country.

If it's not a Rolex, buy. I have gotten good deals on Omegas from overseas. Factor around 150 in duty for a 2K piece to your cost.

Thanks everyone. It's a Patek and I just got an actual quote from UPS of less than $4/$1000 value. Can't complain about that!

By the way, why is a Rolex in danger of confiscation if imported? I'm looking a one of those too.

I bought a Tudor from a AD in Isreal and outside of paying duties when it got here (FedEx) managed it, I got another bill in the mail from the California Tax Board which taxed me even more. So in the end I didn't save so much.
