Questions on vintage pepsi and root beer GMT master
Hi! New poster to the rolex forums although I have lurked before.
I was hoping some of the knowledgeable folks on this forum would be able to help me out with some questions I have about some old GMT models. My first vintage Rolex was a 5513 Sub with a faded bezel and now I would like to begin the hunt for a nice GMT. I have already checked out gmtmasterhistory.com (I've seen this site recommended on various forums) of course but still have some unresolved questions. I am interested in both the pepsi and the root beer; I would like to add one this year and get the other sometime next year perhaps. re Pepsi 1) I like Matt dials and faded bezels so the one to go for would appear to be a 1675 in good condition. However this model does not have a quickset... I have seen comments online that the date can be adjusted backwards by setting he time backwards but some users claim this is harmful. Does anyone know anything definitive about this? 2) A 16750 with a matt dial would avoid these issues altogether but finding one especially with nicely yellowed lume and a faded bezel could be tough. I am wondering if the matt version of the 16750 is otherwise identical to the 1675 cosmetically. Is the plexi crystal domed etc? re Root beer 3) The 1675/3 Root beer with the "nipple" stud type lume markers looks like a very cool watch. Many pictures seem to show a dark chocolate coloured dial. Is this standard or are these black dials that have gone "tropical"? gmtmasterhistory.com was not entirely clear on this point. 4) the 16753 Root beer with quick set movement and larger luminous markers also looks attractive. My question is whether these dials are matt or gloss and whether they are black or chocolate (or available as black gone tropical). Reflections and white balance issues make it a bit difficult to tell from pictures online. Appreciate any help with these queries!! Thanks |
