A year later... finally got insurance

I got insurance for my BLNR today... nearly a year after I bought it. I'm heading to the Caribbean in a few weeks for vacation and read on a another forum of a gentleman who lost a new watch in the surf and had no insurance. I don't want to be THAT guy.

Do most people have insurance on their watches?

Smart move. I got a DSSD back in November and the store I bought it from gave me an appraisal letter that day so I insured it the day I got it. It's nice to have peace of mind. Enjoy your vacation.

Smart move...

Yep, Jewlers Mutual here, wouldn't wear my Submariner out of the house until I had policy in hand. Better safe than sorry!

I waited 2 weeks after owning the watch (waited till it was insured) before I wore it out of the house. Cant afford to take that type of loss.

I think insurance is good for anything other than the sport models...

They do have a double lock.

And, I heard if you tell Rolex that you lost your watch they will give you another...

Ok, maybe not 'surf' but definitely salt water at Pinney's Beach. I'll be parked at Sunshine's, a hundred yards from where I'm staying.

Me too, totally agree.

Only bummer is that the insurance company have stipulated that I have store the watches in a safe concealed in the wall or floor when not in use. I'm not going to get bent out of shape about that here but will have one fitted when I return back to the UK to live full time.

You guys have just opened my eye to something that only hit me this weekend,

I have a nice collection of watches, Toys, Trinkets, Cars, etc as we all do,
I own Rolex's and I like to wear these timepieces daily, However this weekend I was present at a very violent altercation at my place of business, Police has to be called and said party were ejected by police,
A terrible thought suddenly crossed my mind, When all my staff leave and I lock the place up alone how would I know if anybody was waiting for me outside my doors?

Since then I have not worn anything of value, These items have a transparent monetary value, We all know what they cost,
But they also share with it sentiment, Especially for me and how I earned my Rolex's,
They mean a lot to me, and now the fear of loosing them shouldn't inhibit me from proudly wearing them,

I'm sure its all black and white from the website but would any board members give me some tips on covering these items?

Insurance was so expensive that it wasn't worth it for the 16233 when it was bought new in '99. You'd have to pay 500/year and after 12 years you could buy a new one with what you've paid the insurance.

Howmuch do you guys pay? I guess not €500/year?

My watches and my fiancée's jewelry (along with some family heirloom antiques) are all insured by USAA. Smartest thing I've done (aside from getting engaged)!

State Farm offers a Personal articles policy not attached to homeowners policy. It covers jewelry, sporting goods, art, etc. Very reasonably priced. Appraisals are needed on some items, and others just need to be listed with a valuation. Cover theft, loss, and damage on watches.
