Book reading suggestions

As I look at pictures of the pallet fork, I notice the asymmetry in the distance
Of the 2 pallet jewels (entry and exit) from the pallet pivot. All of the pictures
I have seen are depicted this way. Don't know if this is artifactual or real.
Could/would it make any difference in the impulse given to the balance wheel.
Maybe too much time in my hands. Need some reading book suggestions
from those in the know to quench my curiosity or to put me to sleep.
TIA
Ed
