Swapping strap / bracelet - scratching lugs?

Maybe I am worrying about this too much... But I have recently ordered some ends links for my pristine 16570 so that I can rotate some straps (also recently ordered!) on to the watch to make a change from the bracelet.

My 16570 is SEL with lug holes in case that matters. I am concerned about getting scratches on the back and insides of the lugs. I think I can avoid any on the front! Can I put tape on the lugs to avoid this or should I just resign myself that this is part of normal wear and tear and live with it?

Although my Exp II is a 1998 model it has almost no signs of any usage, with the tiniest marks on the back of the lugs indicating that the bracelet was removed in the past.

Tape up as best you can. Mind any grinding around the lug holes with whatever tool you use. This can widen the lug holes and toughen up perfect openings.

The fact you've got lug holes should lessen the pain involved.

tape and patience. If you are in a rush...don't do it unless you don't mind the scratches.

Lug holes make it easy to disconnect but bit more of a challenge in putting them back in, unless you swap out to a pin that has shoulders that a tool can grab and depress the spring.

there used to be a micro/mini spring bar tool that was made of rubber or soft material so it didnt mar the metal

anyone know a link for the OP? would like to pick up one but forgot all about it.

That might help - but I have been using a wooden toothpick so it's not so much the tool that I am concerned about but the spring bars themselves.

I did try Scotch tape but it would not stick to the lugs very well. Maybe clean them first with some rubbing alcohol? Or maybe painters' tape or electrical tape? Or ???

If I didn't want to do it myself, could I trust a rolex dealer with the task of removing the bracelet?
