New to TRF & First Rolex Advice

Hello all,

I want to echo several others in stating that I am new to TRF and have enjoyed reading old threads and educating myself before my first Rolex purchase (withing the next month). I am torn between the 16610 and the 116610. Would be a daily wearer, so not sure the extra $1500-$2000 for a new 116610 vs. pre-owned 16610 is worth it. I know there are several threads on the topic, but any reason to cough up the extra money from a functionality/value standpoint? Appreciate any advice and look forward to contributing to TRF.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

The main difference between them is the ceramic bezel. Personally I like ceramic, as it is more scratch resistant and looks better too. However those watches look different with some people saying 116610 is more 'boxy'. I suggest you try both of them on. If this is going to be your daily wearer getting the newer watch is a better option especially if this is going to be your 1st Rolex.

its worth it for all the upgrades, case, bezel, lume but the glide lock clasp is worth it by itself

Welcome to TRF for. Unless you're going vintage, I'd go with the newer Sub. As Tom mentioned the Glidelock is reason enough

In my opinion you should go new. The extra $ will long be forgotten once you put the 116610 on. Again just my opinion the clasp is much better and worth it.

Go new, as stated above the clasp alone is worth it.

I agree with the others. The price is justified once you look at all of the upgrades you get, plus if you find an earlier 116610 at a better price it's pretty much the same watch we will be getting for the next 10 years.

Go ceramic. The many additional features are well worth the slight increase in expense.

Welcome!

I have a Hulk, which is a newer "green" version of the 116610. I owned a 16610 for many years and loved it.

The Hulk has the nice upgrades, but is bulkier. Keep that in mind.
