Any information on this 1950's Oyster?

Oyster Perpetual I just inherited from my dad. He received it as a wedding present in about 1955. No markings on the back of the case. I think that is a replacement band because I remember his was trashed when I was growing up. Hasn't been worn for 20 years, but it started ticking when I picked it up to photograph it. Any interesting information would be appreciated. Thanks,

Greg

Congrats on a great looking watch..

Sorry. I'm not a collector. I just thought this was a really neat watch with history, asked my siblings for it and am trying to find out more about it. You just answered my first question - how to determine the model. I think its 18K gold (at least that's what my dad told me) and my mom has a matching women's watch. My recollection is there was originally an end piece on the band. I'll check out this forum more and share anything else I find. I know my dad was having it serviced by Shreve in San Francisco and part of the reason he stopped wearing it was the cost of maintenance was so high. Hoping I can find someone more reasonable.

Interesting aside: He bought a Submariner to replace this, decided a sport watch wasn't him so traded it for a Patek Phillipe which appreciated 4x. My brother got that one but I'm happy with this.

Those are harder and harder to service. My wife has a 1960's rolex and its becoming abnormal to find anyone with parts or knowledge in our area. Good luck!
