First Rolex - Super happy with it.
Oyster Perpetual. Ref. 116000, Steel dial.
I wanted a Rolex with a grey dial (I love grey dials) and one that was instantly classic looking without screaming "I'M WEARING A ROLEX" from across the room/street. I was originally looking to buy a very specific pre-owned 1992 Datejust, but I couldn't work out the deal because the seller was in Berlin and couldn't ship it to me in the U.S. Once I realized this was a new model offered in the current line, I knew it was the one. I found a local AD and made a pretty good deal with them and took it home a few weeks ago. It's really nice to be the original owner, too. I love this watch. I don't miss the date complication, and the fact there isn't a cyclops, only if I share my watch with you, do you realize it's a Rolex. Very understated and simple. (I think Submariners and other "desk divers" are kind of busy.) I really love the vintage feel of the 36mm cases, as my two previous daily wearers were both from the 1970s and around the same size. The steel dial on this one is really sharp, too. I love "sunburst" finished dials. In short, I found the watch I'll wear all the time for a long time. Glad to join the club. |
