What direction to go now... ?

Hi all,

Up to yesterday I had been a owner of these two

Enjoyed these watches a lot, as these were my first Rolex'es and first high end watches as well. Since the beginning of ownership I always liked the weight, new case shape of the BLNR compared to older models.
Long story short, two new watches found way into my box which triggered decision to sell GMT Master and Daytona. As I was completing the deal I spotted a nice pepsi GMT (old pepsi, not sure of reference) on the wrist of a sales rep. I decided to ask and try a pepsi and coke on my wrist - these always struck me on pictures, however never trying one I was not sure what to expect.
I liked it a lot and realized that I need a Rolex in my small collection
But this time I would like to get out from my mindset and buy pre-owned. I do not want to spend a fortune on vintage references as it is just beginning of the journey for me when it comes to used Rolex, so there is a question - what reference would you deem as the most value for money - and I am thinking mainly of gmt masters (would maybe consider subs)?
Done some research and 16710 (the more affordable one with 3185) comes to mind first for me.
I would appreciate your opinions guys!

16710 (GMT II) if you want the jump hour hand, 16700 (GMT) if you want tbe quick set date. 16700 is generally a little cheaper. These are the refs you should be looking for. Also, the 16700 only came originally with a choice of black or pepsi, 16710 came with a choice of all three inserts.

I agree with Adam.
16700 or 16710 and make it a pepsi!

guys!
Is it possible to buy bezel inserts from RSC? I know there is plenty on ebay, hovewer I would like to buy from reliable source. I love that it is possible to change the bezel insert on these watches so effectively I will be able to have 3 in 1

Depends where you live. Some RSCs will, some won't.

I'd have kept the BLNR, personally. Maybe a nice 16710 is the way forward.

busytimmy I just could not justify it anymore as it was not getting any wrist time, so had to let it go for somebody else to enjoy. But a 16710 is in the crosshairs - I like the fact that I could do some hunting and buy the right one for right price unlike buying new watch from AD which I always have done

Old Expat Beast - I am based in UK, I'll try London one, thanks!

London St James Rolex will sell you inserts if you pop in and have them fitted. Most Rolex parts are exchange only but I believe you can pay extra to keep to original one too so you have both.

Nice pickups! I'd add a 16710 and a leather strap JLC MUT.

I know I'm being childish here, and I offer a mild apology in advance, but does anyone else think it ironic that the OP shares his name with a very well known sat-nav and is asking which direction he should go?

Soz, I'll get my coat.

Recalculating!

The RO and 5711 are both wonderful but one reason I've not added a 5711 is that I already have a 15300 with a blue dial. Don't think I need both but wild like to find an angle!

On the contrary, I think this is a good reason to get the 5711. You should have a collection of blue dials as they are quite wonderful. AP 15300, PP 5711, VC Overseas Chrono would be a good place to start, as then you have the trinity covered.

If you must get a rolex, what about a blue dial, domed bezel datejust/datejustII? While the gmt is quite robust, I think keeping the look of steel and blue dials across the collection would be quite nice.
Or the blue dial milgauss.

I am also looking for a Pepsi, it will be the first used rolex I buy.

Part of the fun is in the hunt, and I am very particular on the watch I want to get.
I think landing the perfect Pepsi (to my standards), gives me more satisfaction than simply walking into an AD to buy new.
Either 16700 or 16710 doesn't matter, as long as it's mint mint; I have the 3185 movement in my collection already.
The more I look at the Pepsi, the more I want it. This watch is Rolex.

Value for money vintage GMT function, I would go with an Explorer II. Then again, I would probably trade mine for a Pepsi on a jubilee.

16710 GMT is a superb watch and a great all rounder! Can't go far wrong with it!
