omega seamaster

hi all
im new to this fine watch collecting but ive had me eye on getting a nice pre owned omega seamaster something like this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...DME:L:RTQ:UK:1

i know its not as impressive as some of the fine watches on here but fairly nice all the same

question is what sort of price would i be looking to pay for a good pre owned watch also how would i spot a fake as ebay is full of them

regards
lee

Hi Leebo,

A big welcome to TRF. As long as you are sure about the authenticity of that Omega, go for it. It's the all time classic Bond watch that's been around for over a decade.

Hope you enjoy your stay here on TRF.

Cheers - JJ

In that case, Lee, I suggest you ask around for the seller's credentials and some feedback about him. If you don't know the seller, don't do the deal.

Good luck - JJ

Lee, I would be somewhat careful. The seller has no track record as a seller. He's only been a buyer on a few transactions. The one plus is that he takes Paypal. Which means you can be insured if it turns out to be a fake. If you link a credit (not a debit) card to Paypal, you can usually get reimbursement from the card issuer if you dispute the charge with a valid reason. GPB 400 doesn't sound too bad, but you might want to see if you drive a better bargain (maybe 375 or so).

I would agree with Rockrolex,£400 is about the going rate perhaps a little bit less. The only concern I have for a watch thats been worn daily for over a year, its very clean on the back and between the spring bars. But apart from that, box outer box, etc look fine.Looks like the plastic warranty card is there ask for picture of that with serial.

You can probably get one for less than 500 pounds.
A gently used Automatic Chronometer goes for about USD 1000 or so.

JJ might have a Breitling Crosswind for sale.

OH, If you stick around this forum long enough ( a day) people will start to treat you like a regular.

ps, If you go for the Orange Omega, post any pics with extreme caution.

There are lots of fora with for sale sections, and there's a big Omega board over at www.watchtalkforums.com... and stuff always moves in their for sale section. Try Timezone, Watchuseek as well.

The WIS world is small and if you find the one you want to buy, chances are someone here may know the seller.

I'm not up on Omegas, Lee, but considering the source, I wouldn't trust it.

Hi Lee just had a look of there home page looks very professional. They state all goods are 100% genuine. And they quote money back if watch not 100% authentic. That titanium Omega looks very clean they have a contact number
give them a ring to check them out.The price seems to be about right but just be a bit cautious. If you pay by credit card you should be covered against fraud. And if you are from that part of the world, thats even better.

Taxes in Dubai are at a bare minimal. If I were you, I'd be patient and wait for that trip. It would be worth it to get a genuine one from an official dealer.

When in Dubai, try out Ahmed Siddiqui...they are authorised dealers for a number of top Swiss watches and good deals can be had there.

Good luck - JJ

Welcome to the forum. The watch looks genuine, but it's way over priced! $450 GBP is close to $900 and that watch, worn daily and being quartz, is probably worth $500-$600 depending on condition.
Cheers,
Bruce

The non americas cup Seamaster like the one in the auction that you posted is probably my favorite Seamaster.
I like the applied hour markers with white gold surrounds and the applied logo.
I have seen one brand new at the dealer not long ago and it had an MSRP of 2800 USD or so, which makes me say that I wouldn't pay more than about USD 1500 for it.

One thing you have to factor in is that since the watch was bought in 2002, it will be due for a full service just about any day now. If you send it to Omega in Switzerland you are looking at an easy 300 USD plus 6 weeks or so with no watch. You might want to factor that into the price.

The watch seems to be legit. I'd ask for some better pics though. Ask for back side pics and look for the SN on the lug. Omega will NOT service that watch if the SN is missing.

One thing... that is a weird warranty card. Ask for a picture of everything that comes with that watch.

Welcome to the wonderful wacky world of watch madness, Lee. Now you know what the rest of us have been enduring for many years now, ever since we discovered there were more to watches than Casios and Timexs.

BTW, did anyone tell you yet that there is no known cure for this madness. Sorry to break it to you, but you will just have to learn to leave with this chronic dread disease. You, my friend, have become a watchaholic.

Leebo, I've had a couple of Omegas, they make great watches and I am a big fan of them. The only problem with Omega is that you devalue it by simply buying it. If you get one get it because you like it and want to keep it. If you're getting one in lew of a Rolex, DON'T. It's gonna cost you alot of money and only make you want the Rolex more! Trust me, I've done it more than once . If a Rolex is what you want get it, it can take anything you can throw at it, from the office to the gym. Good Luck

Leebo,

What CJ has said above is 100% true. If you're buying the OMEGA, then you will be stuck with it. Buy it only if you really like it and intend on keeping it. You will take a BIG hit on it when you try to resell.

The other alternative is to wait, have a little patience, save up more and buy your dream Rolex. This way, you will at least be assured of the watch you really love rather than investing in a watch that has very little resale value.

Choose once, but choose well!!
