RSC Dallas: Out of Warranty coverage??

I sent my 39mm explorer (that I purchased on TRF about 2 years ago) to the RSC Dallas because it has essentially no power reserve. It is around three years old and out of warranty. In the paperwork that I enclosed when I mailed the watch, I explained that it was out of warranty and purchased used. They have requested that I send a copy of the warranty card to them. I have just done this and I'm wondering what's going on.

Could there be an issue with the provenance of the watch? Might they cover the repair even though it's out of the warranty period? So far, they haven't said much. My first experience with RSC and my only expectations going in were that it would cost a fair amount of money and take a while....

Most likely they will fix it for free, IMO. Big issues like that seem to get some leeway.

First thought: stolen watch.
More reasonable thought: they'll fix it on the house

Rolex asks for that all the time. Nothing to worry about.

This. With the card, they also register the watch serial in your name (even if it's different from the name on the warranty card).

No different then taking your car in for a dealer service
They take the VIN off the car for record purposes.
Also since it was pre-owned it's possible the previous owner had an issue that Rolex dealt with so providing the warranty card will enable them to see past fixes then decide to give you a brand new watch because you got a lemon.
Not only that, they will let you choose anything you want under 35,000.00 because of the stress of wondering why they want your card.

Why would they need the card? The serial is on the watch, no? The RSCs are getting strange with these requests. When I brought my internationally purchased sub to the NYC RSC for warranty work (with warranty card with my name on it) they demanded the original sales receipt, otherwise they wouldn't have worked on it.

Same happened to me, but my card was without name, so they asked for a copy of the sales receipts (which I had scaned and available). Didn't bother me much. On top of that, my work was to exchange a chipped crystal, which isn't covered under warranty so I had to pay for it, yet they asked for all the details.

Had a similar situation with a GMT that was 6 months past the warranty. They asked if I had the warranty card and the bill, which I did, and mailed both with the watch.

I recieved a call from them saying the repair (movement service) was being done courtesy of Rolex. This was NYC. I did not get the usual 2 year warranty but they did fix it for free.

I guess what I don't understand is if you're paying, why do they care about the card or sales receipt. Not everyone who buys a watch gets all the paperwork.

As long as the watch is not altered or stolen, can they (RSC) refuse to service the watch without paperwork?

Wow.

Those stories sound more like you send the watch to NYPD not NYC-RSC.

Haha, exactly. Makes me wonder if they will return my used datejust without warranty card when it's due for service.

Guys, don't freak out about Rolex asking for the warranty. Generally speaking Rolex will service a watch up to three years after purchase at no charge, unless there was impact damage or something that is not a factory issue. In some cases they've extended that interval to up to four years after purchase.

I work at an AD and this is the official information from our Rolex rep.
