Thinking of a 15202

I've had my 15400 with the black dial for about two years now. I also picked up a Daytona over Christmas. I really love the size of Daytona since my wrist is under 6.75 inches, but I've always wanted a blue dial Royal Oak, and the 39mm would be perfect on me (I once had a 15300). I did ask AP about switching the black dial for the blue, and they said no since the blue is a boutique edition.

I was planning to sell the 15400 after it comes back from Clearwater for the 3rd year warranty service, which would bring me down to a Rolex 114060 and the Daytona. Now I'm entertaining the idea of selling both the Daytona and 15400 to buy a 15202 instead. That would still leave me with my Sub and the 15202, which I think I'd be happy with.

Thoughts?

I agree with you. I would rather have the Jumbo than the 15400 and a Daytona. Go for it.

If you like your 15400 you will love the 15202.

Really depends on how you feel with the pieces. I own a 15400 myself and thought about switching to 15202 recently (lets admit it, the dial and the size of 15202 is pretty damn gorgeous) but the lack of second hand and the pull out crown put me off. Wasnt willing to sacrifice practicality for aesthetic gain. As a matter of fact, before I got my 15400, I was seriously deciding between 15202 and 15400 but for the same reasons I went for 15400.

Moral of the story is - yes, the 15202 is gorgeous and has the magical power that really draws you in but are you prepared to sacrifice 'practicality' of 15400? This is a question only you can answer!

There is no such thing as right or wrong answer as both pieces are equally gorgeous but its ultimately to do with your personal preference!

where does the second hand and crown become relevant to practicality?

Well

Second hand - actually displays second and personally I find this to be useful

Pull out crown - you are sacrificing water resistance potentially, no?

You're a bunch of enablers.

Haha.

I didn't think about the pull out crown, though the 15400 and 15202 share the same water resistance at 50m. I don't plan on wearing the watch frequently, but it might be hard giving up the Daytona. Hmmm...

I'd keep the Daytona if I were you, it's an iconic Rolex with nice complication. I would rather sell the sub and 15400 to fund the 15202, and yes jumbo is worth getting

I'd sell all that and more to get the RG 202 that Scott just bought, absolute stunner!

For my info. Are the blue dials on the 15300/15400 and Jumbo the same?

Second hand is a personal choice no doubt. I would prefer a second hand if it were a manual wind.

As far as water resistance, as stated above, for whatever reason AP maintains the 50m rating on most if not all the royal oak models.

I could under understand the difference of cost being a consideration for practicality or the quickset date...

No and even within the 15202 there are different variations, here are pics someone posted before...

Nope. A quick Google search and you can see some images that show them side by side.

Fully agree. And if push came to shove, I'd rather have a Daytona and a 15400 or 15300.

Have seen this image before and believe the lighting to be responsible for the appearance of diff shades.

I'm definitely selling the 15400. I'm not really all that willing to see the Daytona or the Sub go, so I might just have to buy the 15202 outright at some point. In that case, I'd have a fantastic trio spanning quite a bit of history, even if they are modern interpretations.

I am in the no camp, I would sell the 15400 and take the time to find a blue dial 15300. losing a Daytona to keep a watch that looks very similar to your 15400.

I would keep the Daytona and save for the 15202. I don't see an iconic AP replacing that combination in terms of switching it up. The 15202 is more of a collectors piece imho
