Buying a preowned GMT II.... Random serial or not?
Does it matter? It won't have papers but its from a reputable watch dealer. 6750 is that a fair price?
Thank you! |

You can get a new one from a trusted seller here for a few hundred dollars more with boxes and warranty.

If you are buying used it doesn't matter if it's a random serial number, a "G" serial, or whatever. Condition is what's important. The only difference I can think of in the last couple of years is the switch from green to blue lume. A random or G serial may be either of those two lume colors depending. Any serial before those two would have green lume. Other than that, not much difference among the various serial numbers since the GMTIIC was introduced that I can think of offhand.

Meh.
If you're not certain, spend more time educating yourself in the market. Start at your AD full price, the check trusted sellers here. Saving a few bucks is not first priority for first purchase IMHO.

I always insist on box and papers, particularly for a modern watch. There's no excuse for them to be missing on a high value item.

Boxes and papers don't seem to be that important until you try and sell it. I always thought, I won't sell it, but then... I wanted something new and I took a loss. Pay a few hundred more and create an asset.

Whether that is a decent price depends on your local prices that can be researched all over the Internet..

Browse the classified who's who section. Some names show up every week and others show up less often. It's easy to spot the active sellers.

You should really look up Thanh Do AKA Takuya. Search Takuya in the sales forum. The price you were quoted in the initial post is quite high. I'm sure Thanh can get you what you need, with box and papers. He is my go-to watch man. You won't be disappointed.

Yea I agree. No box and papers, no deal. You are going to want those papers if you ever have the misfortune of having your Rolex stolen. It helps the police and pawn shops believe that the watch A. Was stolen and B. Is yours if ever recovered. |

The thicker lugged GMT Master was released around 2007, being the ceramic bezel insert - reference 116710LN. The thinner lugged model with the aluminium bezel insert is the reference 16710.

You can do better and with box and papers.
No difference in lug size on any of the 116710 GMT-C models. Only difference is the recent transition to Chromalight lume (which is blue as opposed to green). |
