Are Frankenwatches real???

Gentleman and any Ladies out there, I've recently been in the market for my first Rolex and I've fallen in love with the White Gold Blue bezel Blue Dial Submariner. Unfortunately it does not have the same feeling for me costing way more than I'm able to spend.

Just today I went to a local shop who sells several jewelry items Rolex being one of them. They had a watch there and he told me that it was a watch put together from different watches essentially. Stainless Band, with a blue 'Nipple' bezel I think he said please correct me If I'm wrong.

My question is, Is a "custom" or a Franken Rolex, with authentic Rolex parts a real Rolex? I like the watch, the price is the same as a Black Face Black bezel from the same year. What are your all opinions please.

Watches made from parts from other watches to be something that they are not, or were not originally, are "Frankenwatches"

Yes, they could be called "custom" just like a low-rider is a custom auto. They aren't for everybody.

Of course they are "real", they are just not something that came in that configuration from the factory.

^^^^ Just to add. They are not serviceable by Rolex. Rolex will insist on retuning the watch to its original condition. If I'm not mistaken.

i think you will find they will work on it, if you change everything back, they will also give you a bill like this new dial, band, new bezel insert, crown etc it just not worth it imho your bill will be in the 3K plus range

I just wouldn't go there.

They could be a mixture of genuine and fake Rolex parts. Not only will Rolex not service them they could be Chinese watches with some genuine parts.

If your looking for pre-owned go with one of the trusted dealers on this forum.

Since you asked, if me I would buy the black face OEM Rolex and be very proud of it, however would suggest buying from here to make sure watch is legit

Then work hard and save until I could afford the next OEM Rolex that I wanted

I wouldn't buy it. If you really wanted a customized watch, I would buy the original, then buy the parts and have it put together. This way, you can return it to "stock" if you need to, and you also know all the parts are genuine.

Remember today your the buyer, tomorrow your the seller.....how are you going to explain that mess to a potential buyer and hope to get most of your money back!

I'd hold off, start saving some more money and comb the used listings for the real-deal watch you want! You'll get it soon enough.

I agree with cheese but oem and the change to suit you. But put back to original when service comes. It is more common than one thinks. I had a 5513 that wasn't all original but loved it the same and made good $ on it. But that being said it never said it was something it wasn't. It just had a rolex replaced dial and a bezel that was questionable at best.

I like the way it looks. My dad built one just like it back in the late 80's ( but with a TT oyster band) and it still looks awesome to this day. So it's really what YOU want. And RSC not servicing it is no big deal since there's plenty of independents that do amazing work.

don't go there. you will be disappointed long term and have an impossible time servicing the watch from RSC and a very difficult time to resale when the time comes. buy something preowned from a trusted seller here. that's what the "For Sale" section is for.

This is my Frankenwatch. I bought a brand new genuine domed bezel and replaced my fluted. I asked Dallas if I could send it to them fir service and the nice young women said yes, but they would change it back to fluted. The domed would affect the waterproof integrity, as the 116233 "calls for" a fluted bezel. Right.

Bob, replacing a fluted with a smooth bezel does not make yours Frankenstein, unless the replacement is not actual Rolex IMHO... Still 100% Rolex

Hi Tom,

I know that it's 100% Rolex as it was a brand new beautiful genuine domed bezel. Finding hen's teeth here in the states. But is now "not a 116203, it is an incorrect 116233, and we will change it if you send it here."
And don't forget the waterproof statement as well. Beautiful.

Well, if all original Rolex it is Rolex, but probably not desirable to anyone buy you. Can't add much beyond what others have said. Will hurt in the resale department.

Aftermarket - different story.
