Sightings over the weekend

Over the weekend, my wife and I were at the theater watching Indiana Jones. Prior to the start of the movie, there were a young couple in front of us sitting.

I started to pay attention which watch they had since the husband appears to have an oyster bracelet while the wife had a jubilee type. I didn't want to be too obvious trying to eye what's on their wrists, but I managed to put bits and pieces together to determine that he had a Submariner date while the wife had a ladies DateJust. Very nice.

While yesterday we went to Canada's Wonderland lining up for the Behemoth, the latest roller coaster in the park, during the 45 minute wait, I saw a nice speedmaster on another man's wrist. Looked big on him though.

Thought I'd share

Hung out with WIS buddies most of the weekend.

It was like being in a stripper's convention. You just didn't know where to look.

Wife and I are down in the Florida Keys on vacation. We were sitting at the bar in the "No Name Pub" last night when I noticed a Sub on the wrist of a guy two stools down from us. Even though it was very dark in there I could see the extra tall crystal on it. Asked my wife to ask him how old it was. She said NO then asked why I wondered? I told her it was one from the '60's or '70's and explained how I could tell. That got her curiousity up so she asked him. Turns out he was not a WIS but had bought it in 1968 and said he paid $660.00 for it. He handed it to me and I handed him mine and showed him the differances.
Sorry no Submariner but it was in great shape.

I see Rollies all the time here in Houston. Almost everywhere you look you see DJ's and Subs.

What in the world does "WIS" stand for?

WIS = Watch Idiot Savant

Here is a proper definition of it LOL! Snagged from TZ.

-Self trained to sleep in 5 positions with wearing his/her COSC certified chronometer in bed.
-Opens the back of a new Patek on the first day of acquisition and hand winds the rotor in tighten up the main spring.
-Takes the 200 meter water proof Seadweller off from the wrist and puts it into the deepest pocket before walking into a storm without any rain gear.
-Waits every 60 minute in front of a radio controlled clock all weekend in order to adjust all his/her 14 mechanical watches to the accuracy within -2/+2 seconds per 24 hours.
-Spends $500 plus on polish equipment and materials and works 20 hours in order to refinish a $200 worth SS bracelet.
-Has a annual budget of $500 on the purchase of a new watch and posts the question on the Timezone forum "which one is better? a Rolex or a TAG?"
-Wears a triple date chronograph with moon phase everyday, but cannot even tell time from the basic hour and minute hands on the dial without a pair of reading glasses.
-Memorizes all serial numbers of the Rolex watches made in the past 60 years but keeps forgetting the wedding anniversary

Since I fly all the time I'm always looking at what people are wearing in the airport and on the plane. When I've boarded and in my seat (usually before 2/3 of the passingers) I will look at peoples wrists as they come in. I see lots of datejusts & subs with an occasional Daytona or DD. I sat next to a guy last week who had a Yachty platinum on. Upon further inspection I think it might have been fake. It had a much darker grey dial than what is standard. Not a metorite dial.
Everyone have a great Memorial day!
